I think comparing it to brooklyn is stretching it. I'm really not seeing the comparison...

I think he meant that St. Louis and Brooklyn have a similar structural resemblance-- solid rows of brick buildings, corner stores, etc. Of course a lot of cities have these features, but mattguy had just been in Brooklyn and the similarities probably stood out to him more than they otherwise would.

Culturally, Brooklyn is obviously a different animal.

I will bet most of us city lovers do this. Wherever I go, I see the similarities & differences with my city. Also see where my city does better and see things my city could do better. My city analyzer is always on. And I view every city through a St. Louis lens.

I do that all the time too. I compare most cities I visit to STL even though I hadnt been there obviously til recently. Like when in Chicago, I was thinking, this looks a lot some architecture you would find in STL.
