I understand that is it nothing earth shattering in terms of design (probably a little sterile) but it is not terrible either. In other words, its not bad but nothing exciting either.
The only thing I can say about the design is it is more of the same.

First I have heard of 2018. Still hoping for a nice celebration for the 50th anniversary.

Would that be a delay from a previous announcement?

I think they initially said late 2017 but maybe they are now saying early 2018 to avoid any disappointments.

Whats the holdup?

Why does it take so long to get things completed in this town?

Bridges, roads , LRT , Buildings - whether it's incompetence, bad planning or a combination of both people should be called out on these delays

We had guests from out of town who had seen the Remand on a previous trip ... and knew it had closed. As we drove by RAM on our way for Chinese one of them asked if that was the replacement building. Seriously.

You DO realize that new RAM construction finished last year and the time is now being spent moving and setting up the exhibits and such, don't you?

You also need at least a year to commission systems and get the indoor environment to exacting levels . I have worked on a couple of museums over the years and it is not a fast process. Plus the mechanical systems need to becsignecboff for a museum accreditation service.

If it weren't for the art elements of the former post office (which I absolutely love) posted along 104th, I'd say that the new RAM has got to be one of the most soul-less buildings I've seen in a very long time. Institutional enough to replace the remand centre? Not that far of a leap.

Is there anything that can be done externally to change the design without spending a ton of money?

Probably not.

I seriously don't mind the new RAM at all.

It turned out better than the renderings.

Its not stunning...but I wasn't expecting this, nor was I comparing it to any other museum.

"Is that big museum-looking building that says 'museum' on it a prison?"

The new location will showcase 400 exhibits displaying 5,300 objects.

Standing in one of three new large loading bays where a steady stream of trucks deposit wooden crates filled with display cases, artifacts and models Robinson admits, "making a museum is pretty hard stuff.

"The museum has 99 permanent staff and we have about 60 temporarily helping us with the mammoth task of moving the new museum downtown," Robinson said.

The museum is hard stuff - the bridge is complicated.

The Metro LRT - bad design?

It seems we have a number of reasons for the delays that plague this city's various projects.
