I still think the concept has promise, even if the design is jacked. As for that "well if Calgary has one, Edmonton won't get one..." I might have agreed a few years ago. Now? Not so much... Unless the oil industry turns around real right quick, Cowtown might as well be called the New Detroit... #justsayin

I like what they have done with the park, but the tower could use some refinement.

Is Edmonton doing that much better though? I know there's more government jobs but still. I've seen many resumes come my way the last few weeks that are from Edmontonians looking to relocate for work. Things are terrible here so I can only imagine they're not great there either.

Alldritt Land Corp Planning 80-Storey Tower in Edmonton

Quote:
While construction of the Stantec Tower will keep Edmonton's skyscraper geeks occupied for the next couple of years, they could soon have another record breaker to fawn over. On an underutilized site steps away from the newly built Quarters Hotel, several abandoned buildings may be replaced by an 80-storey mixed residential tower, according to preliminary plans by Alldritt Land Corp. With that many floors, the building could rise to a staggering 280 metres, surpassing Stantec Tower's roof by 29 metres to become the new tallest building in Western Canada.

Really hard to say. Ambitious to say the least, but the developer have means and relationships. I bet we will get a tower, but perhaps not at that height. It is one of, if not the best, 'view' lots left in the city.

Nice to see! Although it looks a bit lonely all by itself there, I'd still be happy it see it rise, which would probably encourage that mystery cluster of moderately tall high-rises based around that 5 corners site... ;-)

If this gets built as is, it'll be incredible! Look out Calgary!

It would be just as or near as tall as the WilShire Grand in Los Angeles, (their new supertall) minus the spire of course.

Other than the still dodgy blend of lower box facades near the base, the tower is looking more and more like a credible project I'd proudly let stand over our skyline. I just hope this height race continues for a few more towers yet and we'd enter a whole new league, skyline wise anyway...
