SNC-Lavalin.. hmm, we'll probably see one gate per station per direction with provisions to extend the platform, er, width by a few feet to allow for installation of a window.

I'd be really interested to see what Kaisan, architects for the LINK and YVR-Airport, has to offer.

This is just restructuring a few stations, not building an entire network. MTR Corporation is only interested in larger scale projects. I wonder what would happen if the Canada Line was built with the third project partner, RAVLINKTransportation, the one with MTR Corporation.

Honestly it's not that small of a project. Even with all the prep work, it involves planning and implementing a totally new payment system across multiple networks, as well as installing the necessary infrastructure, and some of the stations will have to be redone in a fairly dramatic fashion.

I would say it's small compared to what MTR Corp. has submitted before. With most of MTR's current projects, they are also the operators of the system, not just the builders. Besides, they have quite a bit on their plate already, operating Stockholm Metro, Melbourne's MTM, and joint collaboration for the London Overground.

Well I don't mean MTR in particular but international vendors in general. Honestly from the given list we probably won't see anything too special.

This particular RFQ only deals with station change required for the smart card and faregate.
There is a 2nd RFQ - 'Smart Card and Faregate Project' that won't be closed until March 15. Site visit just happened today according to Translink website

There is no RFP document available for public but the RFQ document at
http://www.translink.ca/~/media/Docu...20Project.ashx still has a lot of good information. Someone did a summary in the Faregate and Smart Card forum.

MTR is in the transport business so it may not be interested in the smart card/faregate area. But the company, Octopus(http://www.octopus.com.hk/home/en/index.html), who operate the smart card for MTR, should be qualified to bid. Too bad they don't have a local office.

Oop! A bit out of topic here, should be posted in the Smartcard/Faregate forum. But station renovation, smart card, faregate and the Expo Line expansion are all related. Too bad they can't be inoperated into a project to save money and have a better result.

Very true, but its just disappointing nonetheless. They're expertise in smartcards and metro is obviously sought after with so many metro systems around the world vying for their help.

yes, but it looks the tender is about the station design, not the smartcard system.

wait...what? Why on earth would they split the two? The implementation of one is obviously dependent on the other.

Definitely no love for SNC-Lavalin after they dropped the ball with the CL. Not lest we forget that they did fulfill the requirements set out to them by OUR government officials.

It wouldn't make sense to put the two together. There are many design firms that can reconfigure stations, but there are few fare gate companies, and I'm sure we are going with Cubic anyway.

And theatre style ropes so if there are more than two people waiting to go through the gate, they can implement crowd control measures.

TTC used construction pylons and "caution" tape at Bloor-Yonge.

I walked by Telus House on Seymour, there are "Gates" to enter the building. I thought they looked pretty neat.

I went down Broadway Station for the first time since renovations completed... man it's a totally brand new station. Colour me very impressed!

Those have been there for a few years.
I think the new CBC Building has them now too.

One Canada Square at Canary Wharf in London has them in the main lobby.
