Thanks. It's been a while sense I've been in the area, which shows by the fact that I had no idea that Red Rock was at the town center.

The legs for the Linq's High Roller wheel are going up now. You can see them in the livecam.

I heard a rumor floating around that the developer for Skyvue was a scam artist, the workers were not paid, and he ran off with the money!

I smelled something fishy with that development from the gitgo! It all seemed too presposterous, to build a ferris wheel in competition with Caesar's ferris wheel at Linq, knowing full well the tourists would flock to the Linq Ferris wheel rather than hike south to Skyvue!

But I may have it all wrong!

In this desert climate, I agree! There's a concrete shell of a high-rise building started near Laughlin, a couple decades ago, it's still there, and there's still consideration being given to complete it.

This should teach our Clark County Commissioners a lesson or two, as I can't imagine a building like this standing uncompleted in NYC or Chicago, without some outrage. Same for the unfishined Echelon across the street, an even worse eyesore, both standing there uncompleted going on 5 years!

I happen to love the design for Fountainbleu, being a sucker for curves.

My sympathy goes out for the residents of Turnberry Place, that luxury condo development in back of it, who have to look out at that eyesore, with occasional windows popping out! I'm sure the Association there has considered lawsuits over it, if not already. Wouldn't blame them one bit!

If nothing else, turn it into a high rise seniors building!

Skyvue's financial troubles mount
http://www.lvrj.com/news/skyvue-s-fi...187065001.html

Quote:
MMC Inc., the contractor that has been building the foundations, filed a lawsuit in Clark County District Court late Monday to collect on $1.1 million in unpaid bills by foreclosing on the project.

All told, eight companies that have worked on Skyvue have filed liens for their work, including general contractor Ledcor Construction Inc. for $3.3 million, according to county records.

FN Spy the Magazine: Transforming Old Las Vegas

February 18, 2013

By WAYNE NIEMIo

A year ago, the walls of Tony Hsieh’s apartment overlooking downtown Las Vegas were plastered in Post-it notes and maps of the area as he began to brainstorm what the city’s Fremont East neighborhood could become with the proper attention and investment.

Now those plans are coming to fruition, and over the next six months the district will see rapid development. Already, new businesses have opened, construction projects have broken ground, tech firms have relocated — and that’s just a hint of what’s to come.

“Now that the land acquisition part of it is mostly done, we’re focusing more on building stuff or renovating space,” said Hsieh, CEO of Zappos.com and founder of the Downtown Project, a $350 million community investment fund he has bankrolled to help transform the downtown area of Las Vegas into a vibrant, community-focused place to work and live.

“In 2013, we will make monumental strides [in the development of the downtown area] simply because a lot of the infrastructure we’ve been planning for the last 12 months will finally start coming online this year,” said Fred Mossler, Zappos’ head of merchandising who is also an investor in the Downtown Project and serves as a strategist and mentor. “That’s only going to increase the energy level and activity downtown.”

A major part of the plan is the relocation of Zappos’ corporate offices to the Fremont East neighborhood, in the former City Hall building. While the company’s formal move of its roughly 1,500 employees won’t occur until September, several projects are already off the ground, thanks to funding and support from the Downtown Project. . .

I saw this thing when I was in Las Vegas last week, I thought it was for a new mono-rail. Then I saw the Ferris Wheel design on the back of the Quad Hotel... interesting stuff...

I also thought the Skyvue was a monrail connection being built for Luxor and Madalay Bay... duh!
