As a kid, seeing that on the drive into Windsor meant we weren't far from grandma & grandpa's house. Coming into the city along that part Riverside Dr. won't be the same.
Agreed. I grew up in Olde Riverside and we'd head out on the Ganatchio Trail toward Sandpoint Beach. That building was a landmark...it looks strange with it gone.

Looks like Chatham St. is coming back to life. Hopefully this purchase goes through!

New photos of the UWindsor Science Research and Innovation Facility. Looks like all the glass is up and they're working on furnishing the interior. I figure it'll probably open for sometime next semester. I'll definitely get some interior photos when it opens.

Hopefully this doesn’t go through! It would be a travesty to tear down those two historic structures right in the heart of the city’s oldest neighbourhood, Olde Sandwich Town, just to put in multi story student residences! More Toronto investors who could care less about our history!

Update on the UWindsor Science Research and Innovation Facility. The building appears to be close to finishing construction. They've added vertical glass fins to the outside of the building, that appear to have the pattern of a tree on them. It looks really fantastic in person. The inside looks like it is almost done being outfitted. I will get some inside shots in the Fall.

Windsor may get a brand new apartment development at the intersection of Wyandotte and Crawford. There is a big empty plot of land there that just got purchased by Piroli Development Group. It'll be 150 units of apartments, targeted at seniors.

The rendering in the article is not the rendering for this project, but I would expect it to look similar.

Windsor’s outlook actually looks better than both KW and London, Windsor will grow 2% this year, after growing at 3% each of the last 3 years, while London will grow 1.9% and KW will only grow by 1.6%.

Windsor is actually one of only 5 cities to post growth forecasts of 2% or more out of the 16 cities listed. I think that’s pretty damn good news!

Nice to see the empty lot on Wyandotte St. DT being turned into a new KFC. I figured a fast food joint would open up there again when they announced that the new Catholic Central High School would be built across the street.

Nice affordable $35M condo development proposed for the east end of the city! Big demand for this type of housing locally.

I've noticed recently that Windsor's riverfront park could really use some more trees, it's a simple thing that would bring a massive improvement. Why hasn't this been done yet?

The city can hardly even maintain the trees they’ve planted elsewhere in the last few years. Example, along Wyandotte they replaced the road and built new medians and also planted trees with that fake rubber mulch. On my way to work I can count several dead and diseased trees, and 3 that have already been cut down after less than 2 years. So now in some spots there are new medians with tree stumps in them!

Bravo Windsor.

Back to the riverfront. There was a new sculpture erected sometime last year. A giant globe with hands holding it up. It has since been taken down for whatever reason and now there is just a random pedestal with benches around it. Who who no what’s going on.

I think you’re asking too much of the city of Windsor.

Riverside Drive is the most scenic drive in the city, with its river and Detroit skyline views. Too many trees planted along the Riverfront park system block these views, and lessen the experience. The amazingly beautiful view of the river and Detroit’s skyline are one of the great experiences in Windsor, so they need to be preserved as much as possible!

I agree that the city needs to improve the parks byincluding new plantings, but they need to be clustered so that most of the views from Riverside Dr. are protected. There are already too many spots DT where there are so many trees planted where you cannot even see the river or Detroit skyline!

God I hate that stupid rubber mulch that the city has been using so much! Who the fuck recommend that stupid decision?
