Thanks for the updates. I know there's not a lot of buzz around this one, but Westbank + Henriquez did a pretty nice job with The Laurel, so looking forward to seeing this come together.

Since westbank named the first rental tower The Lauren after his daughter, is it safe to assume the next ones will be called The Sean and The Ryan

I really love the steel work on this tower. It's such a breath of fresh air to add depth and texture this way. Looking forward to seeing it come together.

So is the former Coast Hotel in the background empty these days? What's happening with it? I hope there is no destruction of the massive building.

Interestingly, it's a few years older than the Landmark, and doesn't have major seismic issues for a residential conversion. There will be more rental apartments than there were hotel rooms, as the conference and meeting rooms will partly also be converted to residential, while the rest of those spaces are now planned to be a boutique hotel conversion (rather than office, as first approved).

Steel looks good - hopefully it won't become the biggest pigeon roost in town.

Quoting Vanville's post in the Downtown Vancouver Updates thread.

I'm guessing this is topped out?

Agreed - looks nice.
Nice fake I-beam detail above the windows.

Reminder of the final product:

Thanks.
I prefer the banding (to reduce window size) rather than vertical strips (which seems to be more common). The banding gives it a retro feel.

I don't like the retro feel. I'd rather them just use glazing that would enable them to have full floor to ceiling windows without any spandrel

Or at least have a white tint to the windows and have it all blend together

Yeah, full floor to ceiling windows would be nice, but I think LEED requires a reduction in solar gain, which is usually achieved by reducing window area (even if that creates gloomy interiors requiring use of electric lights in Winter).
