Wow, kind of sad to see that little building go. I haven't used Burnside since they started doing work on it, so I didn't know this had already started coming down.

I for one won't miss the Fishel's Building but am not sure the glassy box of 5 MLK is a worthy/appropriate replacement. In lieu of a more interesting piece of contemporary architecture – such as we've seen built on the north side of of B'side (yes, including the Yard) – I would have preferred a design that referenced the industrial nature of the district, i.e. the adjacent and recently updated Towne Storage building. Seemed like some of the earlier iterations were headed in that direction.

I'll miss the Fishels building not because it was a particularly special piece of architecture but because it offered some corner-anchoring "old" in a sea of not-yet-comfortable "new". Too bad this isn't a Malsin/WPA project, as I'm confident that they would have taken a more fine-grained approach.

It looks good, I am really liking this building because I think it will take some of the attention away from the Yard. I really think this area could use a few more buildings this height to make it into its own urban cluster of towers.

I totally agree that this will balance Yard's dominance of the Eastbank sky line, though I have never been in the hater category, I have always kind of liked it! That whole strip
along Burnside is trying different things, it doesn't all look the same, and I like that.

Man in crisis scales construction crane in SE Portland, police say

A man who authorities say was in an apparent mental crisis climbed over a construction site fence in Southeast Portland Wednesday, scaled a 300-foot crane and remained atop the apparatus for more than five hours until police and fire officials convinced him to come down.

The man, who hasn’t yet been identified by police, descended the crane on his own around 6:30 p.m. and was taken to a hospital for an evaluation, said Portland police spokesman Sgt. Brad Yakots.

“It was a very good outcome,” Yakots said.
...continues at the Oregonian.

I'd imagine the crane should be coming down soon. Things are wrapping up here quickly.

I never seen window wall that looks so much like curtain wall. Very sleek.

Its a beautiful building. I am really looking forward to seeing it with the mature landscape shown in the design review drawings

I really like this tower, it helps diminish the effect of the Yard and helps give this area its own skyline. Here's hoping to more towers in that area that are more like this.

Add me to the list of those who like it. It reminds me a little of the Northwestern Medicine building (or whatever its name is) in Streeterville, Chicago.

It kind of does, also that streetview really makes me miss my trips to Chicago.

It was sad to see the Fisher building get torn down, but I really do like this tower that replaced it. I also like the tree feature on Ash. This area is really turning out to have a really good Northwest Urban Modern feel to it, or NUM for short. Mark my words, NUM will be trending by this time next year.

Was that tree planted there at that size? I can't imagine they worked around it.
