Aloha and thanks Yume-sama for the recent photos! One new thing I noticed in this recent set is how massive the base of the Skytree is. Almost all of the pics are height-based and it's easy to compare the verticality of the Skytree to the rest of Sumida. The last pic really gave me a sense of scale for the Skytree's base in relation to other structures.

I agree. The engineer(s) on record are IMO, have to be some the best in the World in order to accomplish something like this in one of the most active seimic area of the World

Unofficially, on average, Tokyo experiences 1 minor earthquake per week on a yearly basis (with the whole Country experiencing 1500 of various magnitudes per year). So, this thing has already survived nearly 100 Though, to be fair, most are barely enough to wake you up. Well, if you are used to it... I guess. When you first go back after a long time away, the first one is always a bit startling

An 80% chance of seeing an Earthquake if you stay 7 days, should not deter you from visiting, however lol

New photo time!

A rare angle. A mix of the ancient, just old, and modern

Quite elegant. The Japanese are great at these simple modern designs; almost every one of these towers ends up looking bad.

Isn't that Sensouji @ Asakusa, currently being renovated? You can see the scaffolding.

Asahi Beer is now selling a special "Tokyo Sky Tree Beer" Asahi's famous "Golden Turd" (it really is known by that!) statue is on top of their brewery at the base of the tower~

For a country with such remarkable civil engineering, Japan has an amazing lack of talent when it comes to skyscraper architecture.

The newer buildings look better. Though, admittedly Tokyo is not known for stunning architecture. However, recently nicer buildings have been built. Nagoya and particularly Osaka are known for having more modern "futuristic" looking buildings. In Tokyo buildings are (necessarily) really fat, and until recently, not too tall. This may change now. They'll be really fat and tall like Yokohama Landmark Tower. The idea was to get the maximum amount of space, without building too tall due to structural concerns in an earthquake... however, understanding of how to do this better has much advanced over the last 15 - 20 years, as Tokyo Sky Tree can attest. It is also really fat and super tall

Tokyo is sooo cool. Inception was the best movie of the year so far me thinks, but one thing was missing: a pan of the Sky Tree in those spectacular scenes of Tokyo from the rooftops.
