A construction trailer was brought on site last week and there are finally people working on site today. Looks like spring is the perfect time for demolition.

I love the smell of demolition in spring.

I think this will have a great impact on the skyline and looks like it will look good as well! Wish we could get some color renderings. Will be excited to see this one start to go up!

This development will be an awesome contribution to the skyline! Upon completion, I look forward to crossing the Macdonald Bridge for the best view!!

A pic from my phone yesterday. They now have a good chunk of windows blown out of the old restaurant and a little excavator blowing a whole near the back of the building.

I wonder if they plan on doing all three buildings at once or if they will be done in phases. Theoretically I guess we could see multiple cranes at this site.

It looks likely that we'll see the following projects under construction at the same time downtown:

-Citadel hotel
-Waterside Centre
-Library
-Nova Centre

Clyde Street is a possibility along with a few other projects like the Alexander, Cunard Block, and eventually Discovery Centre one year out. That's a lot of construction activity for a small downtown.

If they were to build all three buildings at once this would do wonders for the city's pride. It would definitely give people some faith in that progress has returned to the downtown -- and that this progress must be protected and continued.

Wonder why the tunnel? Seems like an added expense.

Is it perhaps to deflect wayward debris when they start pulling down the tower?

I'm sure most of us will want to be there the day that happens. I'm still hoping for an explosive demo.

I think I read they are doing it floor by floor by plunking an excavator up top and letting it rip its way down. Might have been allnovascotia I read that in. I think that would be a cool picture.

It could be for control of hazardous materials... most of this hotel was built in the hayday of aspestos use... I'm guessing that the place was full of it. Due to the grandfathering of such buildings there may well be large quantities of it to be taken out..

I was at the Centre Plan meeting in Dartmouth last night and on one of their panels there was a colored rendering of the apartment tower for this site. It had yellow and clear glass balconies on the bottom half and normal glass on the top. Looks good. Maybe this colored balcony trend will become part of the Halifax vernacular.
