Yes!!! So glad they left those there at the old WHole Foods garage!

As for the pic of the Courthouse plaza. Not sure tables, etc will ever happen there.
THat area is part of the barrier around the courthouse for safety ( Thank you OKC bomber) There is a barrier distance that is required all around the building. ( I think it's 50 feet, but I'm sure someone will know for sure)
It's why the street was closed. They couldn't get enough distance on all sides and still make the building work. (Note how the actualy building is set back on all sides.) Which does mean they might have picked the wrong location. But that is another debate that happened years ago! LOL!

The farmers market uses that area when the park is bad shape….. and folks sit there to eat…. but that's about it.

So this is going on at the north end of Rainey street, what they tore down Lustre Pearl for, but I forget the name of the project.

Yep. That's what it is. It's planned to be 504 feet tall with 47 floors. It would be our 4th tallest behind the Austonian, 360 Condos and the Frost Bank Tower.

That is the 416 Congress Hotel that was planned. it was supposed to be 336 feet with 26 floors. It's most likely dead. We haven't heard anything about it since April of 2012.

Same here Hill Country, as soon as I read down half way it got me real excited to see another high rise going in at Rainey St. In which Mayor Lee Leffingwell saved the best for last.

Yeah, I haven't seen any files on it on the city's website. 35 floors would almost certainly be another 400 footer.

That's a shame. Progress is progress but I liked Rainy St. without all the upscale residential. Wouldn't have minded them taking the lot with the IHOP on it.

Well there's no way that's 400 feet tall, and it's not even 35 floors. I count 28 floors.

Very impressive, Austin has come a long way its scary to come in here and see what's being built, next. And ouch that hurt. lol.

San Antonio is on the verge of a very possible skyscraper boom. A couple of 600(2 Proposed) footers will really compliment S.A's thick infill. S.A.'s skyline needs some new skyscrapers but it has one of the better street levels of the sunbelt cities.

It shouldn't be scary visit here. We're neighbors! San Antonio should eventually see a boom even bigger than the current one due to the fact that Austin is getting so expensive. Developers will be looking more and more towards SA.

Expensive by Texas standards but we really are still pretty cheap when compared to other cities especially on the east and west coasts.

Austin will be unique among the Texas cities with regards to density and ultimately height because we are growing in a different way now. We have to because we don't have multiple interstates and 2 or 3 loops encircling the city nor do we have the room to ever build anything like that. None of the other big 3 will end up being compact and dense the way Austin will eventually be because they are already spread out and they have highrise clusters outside of their DTs. As Austin continues build up the core over the next 20 years, there will be a huge difference in how Austin looks compared to the other cities.
