New signage in for Delta 9's store on River:

Not exactly the subtlety or sophistication of Tokyo Smoke...

Also, looks like it's time for a fresh coat of paint on that building... you'd think that a publicly traded company like Delta 9 should be able to finagle that...

To be fair, all Tokyo Smoke's locations were restricted for signage. The Osborne location had very clear guidelines (notice how all the shops there have identical signs), Exchange they tried to put a sign outside, got rejected (heritage) and didn't bother with the hassle, and Dominion could only do the panel signs to match.

Also that Delta 9 building has been renovating for months now, I imagine their wait 'til spring to paint.

I like the sign, need it to be seen from Osborne and it reminds me of big city signage.

Sadly, it looks like Into The Music in Osborne Village (the former Music Trader) is up for lease... a loss for the area.

Is it a store selling hardcopy music? I guess they find it hard to compete with digital

I think Into the Music is a used record store like Planet of Sound on Henderson.

^there’s a story in the Freep about the closure. Apparently, it was difficult to get enough used stock at the Osborne Store because sellers want too much money for their old LPs. The store also stocked new vinyl, used and new cds, and for awhile DVDs. The store is closing when their lease expires in June.

Looks like something's going into the old Pizza Heaven spot, though I can't read what it is...

And... there are "upgrading" signs in the window of Basils/Black Rabbit/Ward 1/Pete's Place.

When they're printed out on 8.5" x 11" sheets of paper, that's a pretty good sign whatever's coming won't last longer than a few months.

I know that's a cynical take but that building is hopeless until it changes hands.

Does anyone understand how the finances of the BIZs work?

http://clkapps.winnipeg.ca/DMIS/View...onId=&InitUrl=

If you click on the Osborne Village BIZ, it looks like they plan to whittle their activities down to almost nothing, and have little in the way of salaries to pay (I'm guessing Stephanie Meilleur is no longer ED after quitting to run for council?)

They're keeping $50k in "events" (hockey tournament and Canada Day, I'd guess?), going from $300k to $10k in actual physical enhancements and maintenance (spending nothing on holiday decor, streetscape renewal, murals, or landscaping), and it looks like they aren't budgeting on keeping the security patrols (safety programs drop from $25k to $0).

As a result, they're budgeting for a $148k surplus. Anyone know what the plan is? It feels like they're doing very little for the village at a time that a great deal is needed.

281 River has seen a bit of a refining to the design as well as a change to blue accent panels (from the old brown).

This is the older render.

The new design looks..wait a minute...better? I'm not sure I've ever seen that happen before.

I prefer this newer design. And why would it be worse? Winnipeg needs more vibrant colours, there’s already much beige and brown

Hmm and a rooftop patio? Looks hip

surprises me they're not planning a fence along the park side, just hedges, given the summertime population that hangs out/lives on the riverbank

I much prefer it too. It's just that "refining" or "new design" often means value engineering. The new design is far better and a pleasant surprise

The largest record distributor in Canada also ceased operations late last year/early this year which drove the wholesale cost of new vinyl up about 20-30%. A lot of factors all converging at the same time it would seem.

Very true. And Eat Em Up Records on Sherbrook is also closing. Perhaps similar factors are at play across the industry.
