https://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/...-greenway.html
Quote:
Atlanta officials broke ground Thursday on the $11.5 million Proctor Creek Greenway, a seven-mile bike and pedestrian trail that will connect the Bankhead MARTA station and the Atlanta Beltline's Westside Trail.

When completed, the project will feature 50 acres of linear park and 400 acres of green space running from the city's Maddox Park to the Chattahoochee River.

Peachtree creek greenway could start next year, too. "As soon as february". It's the northeast fork up toward doraville.

I stayed up way too late reading over this and was stunned when I saw those two massive new parks as a part of the plan. Amazing!

That park appears to be a nice small addition. Broad street and downtown is going to be an amazing neighborhood frequented by all. I cannot wait for more to recognize downtown for the great neighborhood it is and will grow to be.

Thanks for the pics! I saw the fences up two weeks ago but wasn't sure what they were doing there. Broad street is a great asset for downtown and it's getting even better.

For anyone that is not aware of it, here is an article on the Piedmont Park expansion.

Atlanta Mayor Reed announces Piedmont Park expansion

Quote:
Piedmont Park and the Atlanta Botanical Gardens will get a $100 million expansion, the city of Atlanta and Mayor Kasim Reed announced Friday.

The city says it has signed letters of intent with two property owners to purchase the property located at the corner of Piedmont Road and Monroe Drive for the historic expansion. The size of the property was not announced.

The purchase of this land will enable the city to create an enhanced landscape that will serve as a gateway entrance to Piedmont Park, according to the announcement.

The city said it will contribute $20 million to the initial acquisition. Carol Tomé, chief financial officer of The Home Depot and a member of the Atlanta Committee for Progress, has volunteered to lead the philanthropic effort to raise up to $80 million in private funds to acquire all the remaining property and fund the park design and construction.

Midtown is planning five 1 acre parks...

https://twitter.com/HalickiM/status/963413084953042945

And several other pocket parks throughout the district.

Love it, Midtown! I've been hoping for more greenspace outside of Piedmont Park.

One little problem with that vision is that at least two of those lots are slated for development (Anthem and Opus Place). The rest are privately owned and I don't see the city making offers. Everyone in politics can agree parks look great on PowerPoint slides and most will agree Atlanta has a glaring lack of them. The only thing that matters is whether the city is going to do anything about it. Until then, that vision means about as much as those fan fiction MARTA maps people make.

100% agree. Why in the world would the Midtown Alliance announce a plan for 5 one acre parks when there is zero chance of that becoming a reality? Considering Midtown land prices are $11 - 22 Million an acre. I would rather they spend the money to complete all of the sidewalk revitalization and bury all of the utilities. If there is money left over, build 1 park with a large water feature.

For sure all these apartment residents need someplace to "walk the dog".

That appears to be the southern half of the block with the Anthem tower which Portman has indicted a development is not imminent and there is ample acreage on the block containing Opus on which a greenspace could be done. The bottom line is that these are "big ideas" that will continue to be fleshed out as the planning moves forward.

Opus and Anthem have future phases and there won't be a free acre at either when they're done. If the city doesn't own the land, it's not permanent and it's not a park. It's just a vacant lot with benches that will be dug up as soon as a developer is ready to use it.
