Well there is an article in the Atlanta Business Chronicle where the man mentions the possibility of downtown and Midtown as possible markets for a Shula's Steak House. We went to the one at the new Marriott down in Buckhead and it was pretty nice.

wow. they are moving along.

this is one of my favorite projects because that corner is so dead right now.

i guess "The Dew" is still waiting for the perfect moment to strike...

^ I agree about that corner. The Midtown Diner and Margaret Mitchell House somehow don't generate much foot traffic. There's a desperate need for a skyscraper with ground level retail on the NE corner of 10th and Ptree.

A little negative news, alas: Fuego on Crescent has closed, according to my co-workers, with whom it was quite popular.

The proposed restaurant in the 999 building (Peachtree & 10th) is instead an art gallery, judging by the art on the walls & the stenciling on the windows.

Tin Lizzy's is taking over the Fuego space.

Empire State South is actually going in the old sandwich shop on the corner closer to Hotel Midtown, not the old Grape space.

^ahh, makes sense. I took a closer look, and the space at 10th and Ptree is indeed an art space. Atlanta Art Works or something like that.

Midtown Diner gone all night

The formerly 24-hour Midtown Diner @ 10th & Peachtree in the old Jocks & Jills location has gone to an all-night arrangement, it seems.

Their posted hours are 6pm - 6am during the business week, and 24-hours on the weekends.

I do hope it works out for them!

Well we came into town the other day and went to the Cobb Energy Centre. That place is something else. You can see why the opera moved out there.

I've heard nothing but good things about Octane. Apparently they have a small but well-chosen beer list and do occasional beer tastings. They just opened a second location in Emory Village this month, in the spot formerly occupied by Method, Inman Perk, and Caribou. Fourth times the charm?

Anybody know of a cozy restaurant or bar with a fireplace? I can't think of one off-hand

Thanks!

Atlanta could use another Snow Jam like the big one back in '82 at the original Horn. That thing really pulled the city together.

Those were the days.

The only restaurant I can think of that had a fireplace is on N. Highland in the building at the corner of Amsterdam. The front door is along the driveway between the post office and the Mexican restaurant (formerly Sala). Sorry, I can't remember the name.

Thanks, I'll have to check out Front Page News -- the one in L5P has a fireplace but it's outside. Now that I think of it Brewhouse Pub has two outside as well.

Got an IM about Ri-Ra, guess there's a fireplace in the second room. What I was hoping for was something like Tommy Condons in Charleston -- very cozy little place there.

Oh yeah! The old Tiburon restaurant. It was Vine for a while and now is a BBQ joint. I miss a lot of the places over there... even Camille's

The fountain area of 999 Peachtree has been blocked off for a few days (SE corner of the intersection of Ptree and 10th), and now they're tearing up the fountain. Maybe this is where the reported bocce ball court for the Empire State So. restaurant is going?
