Ah, then there we go! That building definitely housed a Masonic temple at one time. I would have never known, if it weren't for this thread.

Los Angeles Lady Police aim for the bullseye. Date unknown. Location?

Update: Female trainees of the Los Angeles Police Department get used to firing their newly issued revolvers, March 6, 1948.

Sopas, all you have to do now is sneak upstairs and see if it matches the photograph.

It's possible, but I remain somewhat skeptical, one reason being that the windows at the left in the interior photo don't match up with the exterior fenestration on the building. While it's true that the fenestration might have changed since the 1910s, the exterior doesn't look to me as though it has been substantially altered.
To be honest the windows bothered me too Joe.

ScottyB, I didn't see this photograph earlier.

It's an amazing photograph.

Yes! The decorations, layout, light and overall atmosphere are quite evocative; I can imagine what that room smelled like (tobacco, leather, wood, tobacco).

1940 Dodge Luxury Liner De Luxe [D-14] in "The Man Who Wasn't There",
nice tie. Filmed in many locations in the LA area....

Dodge Series D-14 2-door De Luxe sedan , 1940. The De Luxe models are identifiable by the stainless steel belt molding. They were still often designed as the " Luxury Liners" , a designation introduced on the 1939 cars .Six cylinder engine of 87 hp.The picture here is very clear and shows all the details of the car.

Thanks for solving the mystery photograph Hoss.

Here's another photograph by Robert Frank.

Venice, CA 1956

artsy.net

Gelatin Silver Print
11 × 14 in
27.9 × 35.6 cm

I would have guessed much earlier than 1956.

Here's a closer look at the person sitting beneath the striped blanket.

detail

At first I thought it was two people. (now I'm pretty sure the hat is hanging from the tree)

Oh, and one more thing.....is the person sitting under the striped blanket a man or a woman?

(there's a vague Gertrude Stein resemblance)

While trying to gather more information on the South Pasadena Masons, I happened upon this photograph of the Cawston Ostrich Farm float from the 'Prosperity Parade' of 1908.

south pasadena public library

I'm guessing the photo was taken in South Pasadena somewhere near the farm. -but the actual parade took place in downtown Los Angeles.

The best clue, as far as I can tell, is the name of the winery in the background on the left. --there's a lumber yard beyond that (it appears to be on both sides of the street)

here's a closer look

It says...

G. DEMATEIS WINERY

but I need help with the two words to the right of G. Demateis ---->

luckily there's also a street number....627

Back in Sept. 2015, FW posted this great photograph of a different float from the Prosperity Parade. (he even figured out the location of his photo)

November 18, 1908. This enlarged view looks at the NW corner of 1st and Hill, with a little of the Highland
Villa and its sign visible in the background. The costumed printer's devils on the float are a clever touch:

FW's complete post is HERE. (including information on the Highland Villa that appears in the backgound)

The 1908 LA City Directory says the Demateis Winery had a facility at 627 N. Los Angeles Street:

I believe the two mystery words are North Cucamonga. Maybe that's where the grapes were grown?

The G stood for Giovanni, and his brother was most likely Chas or Carlo (depending on which CD you look at), although there was also a Louis Demateis in the business who lived with the others a 628 N Main Street.

The 1899 CD lists Giovanni in the winery business at 627 N Los Angeles as Demateis & Pellissier. He was living at 24 Olivera, and business partner Antoine Pellissier was at 27 Olivera. The same CD shows that the two were also proprietors of the North Cucamonga Winery (North Cucamonga, Cal), with an LA address at 430 W 7th Street.

By 1914, the business had become the Italian-American Vineyard Co, with Giovanni as president and premises at 1507 E 1st Street. By then, Giovanni was living at 333 N Breed Street.

Hamilton Burger on the wrong side of the law...at Wrigley Field in Armored Car Robbery (1950)

IMDB

LAPL

Most of the houses opposite the stadium along 42nd Place are still there, including the two larger ones in the scene above....

More scenes from Armored Car Robbery...

Four architectural icons in one shot:

The east side of Los Angeles St between 11th & 12th...

I'll leave it to someone else to identify the location where the '39 Dodge careens around a corner and winds up at the mouth of a tunnel...

re: GW's tunnel

It looks a bit smaller than the other tunnels around town and I believe those are raised rail tracks with weeds near the tunnel portal.

This is a long shot. I wonder if it was the r.r. tunnel at the end of Ducommun St. that angles trains over to Union Station.

gsv

of course it doesn't look anything like it did in 1950.

here's an aerial to get your bearings.

Anyone know what make of car this could be.? I know that a few readers are very helpful on these mystery cars and I make a lot of mistakes. What with those tail fins and all, I get all mixed up.

This is Hazel Gorsuch of Los Angeles in 1949.

Trains exit Union Station in the Northbound direction.
All train tracks terminate at the end closest to the 101 Freeway.
(Except for the Metro Gold line, which crosses the 101)

Happy to oblige, CBD. Hazel's Caddy is a '49 Series 62...unless it's a '48 or '49 Series 61 with chrome rocker moldings added....

And here's where she stashed it--gray doors on the left:
