Metro Atlanta Projects (projects outside the city)

"Futuristic" Hotel planned near Mall of GA

Modeled after the world’s only round hotel in Frankfurt, Germany, the proposed Radisson Blu Hotel will sit like a futuristic disc near I-85 and Buford Drive. The 400-room, $115 million hotel will be 23 stories tall and include 50,000-square-feet of conference space. Beaton said he plans to start construction in June, pending the results of an Atlanta Regional Commission impact study.

A rendering of the Gwinnett Gaming Resort that was proposed by Daniel E. O' Leary to the Georgia Lottery Board

I think this is an even worse idea than putting something like this at Underground.

I'm guessing the gaming resort won't happen, since the governor is against casinos. If I remember correctly, the lottery's board must approve it and they won't approve it without the governor agreeing to it.

Just announced this week! I'm surprised no one posted on this hotel? It's just down the road from me.

Gwinnett Center Marriott (Gwinnett - Duluth)

Nilhan Hospitality

300 rooms

Nice catch for Gwinnett. Is that going to be the tallest in the county?

The Avalon in Alpharetta looks too familar. When I first saw the pictures, I was like yeah I've been there before. Then I noticed that it wasn't even opening until October of 2013.

Landed on the north runway Sunday and saw the Porsche HQ is actually under construction, albeit just some pretty minor earthwork. But it's good to at least see something.

Builders have been trying those cheap-looking Lindbergh-esque designs in Smyrna too, and each time get forced to change their designs to more traditional styles, like I'm guessing happened in Roswell. Not sure why they haven't figured it out by now. (Although, that picture above says Canton on it, which has me a little confused)

That's kind of crazy. There's probably a few dozen 17+ story buildings in Cobb County around Cumberland and Vinings. I know Gwinnett is more spread out, but isn't it time they think about going more vertical before they run out of land like Cobb County?

Smyrna/Vinings

Riverwood 200 in Cumberland has started up again (these are outdated renderings)

Overton Park Phase II in Cumberland. This rendering is up-to-date as far as I know.

Belmont Hills in Smyrna is starting up again. This is just the housing in pod F, up-to-date as far as I know. I don't have a rendering of the retail in pod A, or senior housing in pod B. One pod ended up being replaced by Smyrna Elementary. Two pods are being left to a future date and as of yet are planned to be 4 or 5 story mix of office and condos. Due to the condo market, those are being held off for now.

Jonquil Village also submitted new plans for street-lined apartments with street-level corner shops and parking in back (originally, looking like something out of Atlanta but Smyrna is making them change it to a more traditional Ivy Walk/Market Village type look). No renderings yet since the design has just been re-worked and I don't think anyone's gone to comm dev yet to pick them up (I haven't seen them posted anywhere)

Jonquil Village also submitted new plans for street-lined apartments in Smyrna at Spring Road and Atlanta Road, 4-story buildings with street-level corner shops and parking in back. However, it was rejected, largely because it wasn't mixed-use enough (only five shops, with only three in a residential building) and also due to base level of the largest building and other various design issues. I'm not sure what we're going to see next, but their updated plan is due in mid Sept. Branch can't seem to stick to a general concept and just work on it until the city approves. Instead, they substantially change it each time. Hopefully, they are starting to get more grounded.
