If the entire building looked like the top two thirds I would be fine with it, even though I find it a joke to only have the existing banks as the only retail on site for this many jobs.

The tenant in the 1st tower will be Anthem, who's going to consolidate their IT offices in the building.

This explains why the Portman project seems to be moving so fast. Hopefully 1105 West Peachtree finds the same level of success.

Quote:
Anthem Inc. (NYSE: ANTM) announced Thursday long-term plans to locate its 1,800-employee IT center in a new 21-story building in Tech Square. The new renderings look quite a bit better than the original.

The Fortune 500 health insurer has signed a build-to-suit agreement with Portman Holdings, which will develop the 352,000-square-foot building near Georgia Tech in Midtown. Anthem's center will rise at the corners of 4th and West Peachtree streets. It will employ 3,000 people and create 1,800 new jobs. Anthem is expected to lease the entire building.

As far as stumpy, parking deck heavy towers go, I gotta say I don't hate it. The Anthem version is actually a big improvement over the original renderings.

Why is Portman (the firm I suppose, not the man) unable to design anything that isn't a complete mess? It seems, at least locally, everything is just over designed and feels dated before construction begins.

Don't expect much in terms of street activation; both tenants will be banks.

This is exactly what was previously proposed, except they added the Anthem logo to it.

I'm aware of that. The additional details including the name is still an improvement IMO.

I like it, and usually "Technology" buildings aren't that tall but girthy...

Every building in the immediate area(so far) is virtually the same height +/- a few feet. It's going to be a dense but flat skyline.

i guess i'm warming up a little to the latest rendering.

the spandrel panels(?) between floors remind me of gables republic tower in dallas, and i'm not sure how i feel about that. gives it a very 1950s vibe. it could be cool.

Groundbreaking

Wasting no time on this one...guess that's what happens when you have a big name, confirmed tenant.

The Portman companies have always had guts. Where some developers would dink around and wait until everything is just so, Portman blasts ahead.

I know many find fault with their aesthetics but they do get things done.

Good to see this one get underway. Can't wait to see yet another tower crane raising while driving down the connector.
