How to View Stories Behind a Paywall

* Several people have complained about stories being behind a Paywall. Follow the steps below for a work around.

Kindly delete if this is not permissible on Skyscraperforum, but this is a commonly known work around and is not considered hacking whatsoever.

Step 1: Highlight the article's title and right click your mouse to do a Google search to find this article. See highlighted below in red.

Step 2: Click on the triangle. After clicking on the triangle a cache button will pop up

Step 3: Click on the cache button

Enjoy

Since someone brought this up.

This is public knowledge and is on Google's end, so it's fine here.

The only thing is if people are going to post those articles here, or any articles, you must follow the forum guidelines when posting articles.

A line in the rules here is important in this case with paywalled articles - "only the first few sentences or the first paragraph of the article (not the entire article)." - this is because the rest of the article may be behind the paywall, a section of the article that the publisher wishes to not be made public without a subscription.

Quote:
Articles
Articles, such as news articles or blog posts, must be posted in a special way to avoid copyright infringement. Information about the source of the article must be given and only the beginning portion of the article text may be posted.

When posting an article please include the following information:
- the title of the article,
- the author's name,
- the name of the publication,
- the date of publication,
- a URL to the original article,
- only the first few sentences or the first paragraph of the article (not the entire article).

The exact format you use is up to you but it must contain the above information.

FWIW, this doesn't work for news article on every site.

I tried it with the WSJ to no avail.

I don't think this works anymore for ABC articles.

I am using the latest version of Firefox on a Mac Powerbook and it works for me.

At the top you should see a link to view text only version. That should always work, but without pics.

Another trick I found out about in Google Chrome is copying and pasting links to articles on the incognito tab. It works for me

For ABC add this filter in uBlock. You won't be able to view the galleries, but you can still read the articles.

It's really not that expensive. I've been an ABC subscriber for 20 years and they really do write stuff we care about. Even at $99 a year it's about the same as Hulu. Support the media!!

Maybe they could give a skyscraperpage user discount?
