Thanks to you all. I enjoy bringing the updates. The problem is, that this webcam is way too entertaining for me. This to me is way better than reality TV!! Many can argue about the architectural merits (or de-merits depending on your view), but for me, ever since I was a child, seeing tall buildings go up has always been a thrill.

Let me share a diorama that I have built. This currently resides in my basement.

Here's a detail of the floor deck on my diorama to be poured:

Quick update:

As we near the end of yet another workday at 432 Park Avenue, several items have been accomplished. A quick summary: Today, backfilling around the core, and the west wall took place after waterproofing was installed. Four small pads were formed and poured within the core. On the four small pads within the core, small box outs have been placed. Forms placed around core reinforcing. Underslab piping started.

All this in preparation for future slab on grade casting.

Concrete was placed in a footing by 56th Street this morning. If I am not mistaken, rebar (most likely corner reinforcing between the far west perimeter wall and a future wall to be cast??) was visible on the perimeter wall. I beleive that the reinforcing was placed while the perimeter wall was cast previously, then the concrete covering the bent bars was ground off ( the manlift has been seen with a worker grinding concrete),then straightened. South footings are being formed.

One last item I forgot: an area (along the 56th Street perimeter wall) just to the south of the five south footings being formed has been outlined in red paint. This could indicate the location of a major footing to be placed, possibly for the base section of the climbing tower crane. However, this could just be speculation, but it would seem to be a likely location. Time will tell.

This ^^^ EPIC fun. Maybe you should construct one of this building. That would be a first for this site! Either way thanks for the updates they are always appreciated!!

@marcatio

Please keep the updates coming! They are very much appreciated and really is an enormous help when it comes to understanding what the heck they are doing! I appreciate the work of art (the building) these guys are making that much more.

Also, do you have an idea of what the piping may be used for that are going to be under the slab? I don't remember seeing them connect the piping to a drain/sewer. That leads to the other question... where is the city water main (pipe)/sewer and maybe the gas?

P.S. That is a very nice model you have there!!!

Silverfox,

I'm always adding bits and pieces to my diorama. The last piece I made for it was a rebar bending machine. Here's what it looks like:

And here's the real 1:1 item, which I photographed in detail at a job site:

And how it looks in my diorama:

I want to add curtain wall sections to the lower portion. It's a work in progress, you might say.

Thanks to all of you for the compliments.

Cool. You could actually make a model of this building as the construction persists.

I think the same can be said for many of us here. Architectural merits aside, everyone can agree that watching this skyscraper claim it's spot in the New York sky will be a site to see.

I found out yesteday that my uncle works for this tower as a concrete pourer.
From his mouth he said
"The Tower Should Top Out by mid 2014 if there are no delays.
Be up to street level at the end of this year, if not the beginning of next.

If I am observing correctly, the hydraulic hammer and a bucket are standing by for breaking and excavating rock today, for the area that was outlined in red paint late afternoon yesterday. Also late yesterday afternoon, the excavators created a shorter (but steeper) ramp, which the medium-sized short-tailswing excavator ascended (with help) to the street level.

It is a symphony of excavators and activity down there today. Lots going on. They are filling the main core area with gravel, and is that sand they have placed outside the main core area? The darker colored material.

Wow, look at the amount of progress made in one week!

I normally don't care about this part of the construction until the tower begins to rise, but in just a week, you can see the progress.

Is the orange square in the upper left an anchor for the crane?

hey marcatio, do you think they will be pouring the inner slab (inside the perimeter colums)? It looks like they are going to...

Update:

Work moves ahead on the preparations for slab on grade concrete. Waterproofing is being installed, with a crushed stone layer being placed on top. The crushed stone is being unloaded from a dump truck at the jobsite entrance via the medium sized excavator to skips which are then transferred via the triple-boom excavator to the placement area. Currently, crushed stone is being placed on the east side of the future slab.
