"A new residential development is on the boards that would essentially hug Red Rocks, the Columbia Heights pizzeria. Heights Holdings has applied for zoning relief in order to construct a four-story, 26-unit apartment building at the corner of 11th Street and Park Road NW.

The 4 two-story rowhouses on either side of Red Rocks will be razed and replaced with the new construction. The 5,574 square-foot site is zoned MU-4, permitting by-right moderate density mixed-use..."

"When plans for the Washington Gateway development at New York and Florida Avenues were first approved over a decade ago, the project was envisioned as a residential/hotel building and an office building with ground-floor retail. Since then, the hotel use was removed and the Elevation at Gateway residential-over-retail building has delivered.

Now, the plans for the second phase of Washington Gateway are coming into focus.

The second phase will consist of a 130 foot-tall building with a North and South tower. The North Tower was previously approved as 372 residential units, while the South Tower was approved for office use with the option of converting to residential prior to delivery. The development team is applying for a modification that would confirm residential use for the final portion of the development..."

1700 block N St. NW. These buildings have been vacant for years but now it's moving forward as condos (I believe originally it was to be a hotel).

dlg569-- thank you for posting. My wife and I walked to the Pretzel Bakery yesterday for breakfast and I took photos of the development next to Fragers, so you saved me some time posting the photos!

Also, if anyone is interested, the Coalition for Smarter Growth is holding one of their excellent walking tours of the Wharf this Wednesday, from 6:30 - 8:30 PM. If interested, RSVP here: https://www.smartergrowth.net/events/ .

Pentagon City, residential. There's a surprising amount of greyfield in the area (and is slated for development), but this replaced part of the Pentagon Centre mall and eventually the rest will go.

"Several hundred residential units may be headed to the area surrounding Monroe Street Market.

As first reported by The Brookland Bridge, a development team led by The Hanover Company has given notice of intent to apply for a planned-unit development (PUD) which would deliver two residential buildings at Jackson and 8th Streets NE.

The current plans are to deliver 371 apartments across the two buildings, which will have a maximum height of 65 feet and will be bisected by a courtyard. A below-grade garage would provide roughly 186 parking spaces. KTGY Architecture + Planning is the development architect..."

Such an ugly building. Hopefully it gets buried by other highrises on the other two sides. This corner are the two sides which we will have to see.

A lot of the tabloids are speculating on the DC metro getting Amazon HQ2. Thread is closed, so I can't post it there.

On a side note, Bezos saids that HQ2 winner will be announced end of Q4 2018.
