Capitol Riverfront/Navy Yard

This is excellent news. The section of New Jersey Ave, SE between Capitol Hill and the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood can be a bit desolate at night and this will improve connectivity between these two neighborhoods. The rooftop lounge also promises to offer incredible views of the Capitol.

"The Near Southeast development pipeline continues to grow, as plans for a CSX Transportation-owned property begin coming to the fore.

Developer Greystar has applied to deliver a mixed-use hotel to a portion of the 10.85-acre site at 861 New Jersey Avenue SE. The ten-story building will have up to 200 hotel rooms and street-level retail, along with a rooftop lounge. The development team is seeking zoning relief from the build-to line requirements in order to ensure an uninterrupted streetscape along New Jersey Avenue..."

"Infill development in DC historic districts often incorporates existing structures into new multi-family projects. Far less often, existing structures are moved to make way for new multi-family projects. But that is what is happening in Cleveland Park.

Preservation DC and Teass\Warren Architects have teamed up to move a two-story house at the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Macomb Street NW, and then incorporate it into a 16-unit residential development..."

Amazon II headquarters

Well, this would be exciting news.

Amazon in advanced talks about putting HQ2 in Northern Virginia, those close to process say

Washington Post

By Jonathan O'Connell and Robert McCartney
November 3, 2018
Washington Post

“Amazon.com has held advanced discussions about the possibility of opening its highly sought-after second headquarters in Crystal City, including how quickly it would move employees there, which buildings it would occupy and how an announcement about the move would be made to the public, according to people close to the process.

The discussions were more detailed than those the company has had regarding other locations in Northern Virginia and some other cities nationally, adding to speculation that the site in Arlington County is a front-runner to land the online retail giant’s second North American headquarters and its 50,000 jobs...”

Here are 5 new infrastructure projects we’ll likely get with Amazon

Greater Greater Washington

"Amazon's HQ21/2 is coming to Crystal City, Pentagon City, and Potomac Yard, an area that local officials dubbed “National Landing” to avoid writing out three neighborhood names over and over again. Amazon’s arrival will mean at least $195 million in new transportation infrastructure from Virginia, on top of the $570 million it was already planning on investing into the area..."

HQ2 in Crystal City is great news for DC. DC gets the benefit of having Amazon across the river and their employees living in the District, and VA offers all the tax breaks.

Capitol Riverfront/Navy Yard

This is the consolation prize for our neighborhood not getting the Amazon II headquarters.

Forest City finds an anchor tenant for The Yards' next phase, with nearly $6M in help from D.C.

Another win for the Trump Administration. I am starting to get tired of all this winning!

Fannie Mae redevelopment

The Fannie Mae Development Where Wegmans Will Call Home Now Has A Name And A Groundbreaking Date

By Rachel Kurzius
DCist
Nov. 21, 2018

"Regional grocery chain Wegmans has some intense fans, who’ve been thrilled with the store’s forthcoming debut in D.C. at what was once the headquarters of Fannie Mae. Now, there’s a name for the development on 3900 Wisconsin Avenue NW where the grocer will call home—City Ridge—and a quickly approaching date for the groundbreaking: December 1.

Roadside Development, which is helming the project, calls City Ridge an “urban village” with a total of eight new buildings alongside the original Fannie Mae headquarters. In addition to the Wegmans, the development will have 652 residential units (including approximately 55 units of affordable housing), 153,000 square feet of retail space, 62,000 square feet of office space, a 150-room hotel, a health club, and a cultural arts venue on the front lawn, according to Roadside Development founding partner Richard Lake..."

Surprised nothing's been posted from https://nationallanding.com/, which has renderings of:

Five towers at PenPlace (22 stories)
Three towers at Met Park (22 stories)
1800 S Bell replacement (22 stories)
Two towers at 1900 Crystal (25-26 stories)

I wrote about the first two projects here:
