Question When will Canada get a supertall???

Hey, I've been wondering about this for a while, and I would like to know if anybody knows about any supertalls being planned for Toronto,or at least something taller than the First Canadian Place??

Isn't that what the CN tower is there for? As the replacment of a supertall?

Ha. It's funny because it's true.

But honestly, because of the way Toronto is now, I don't think we will get one for a while.. at least 4 years.

Why does Toronto deserve a supertall? What about the other cities in Canada like Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary (who would probably be the more likely supertall candidate IMO), or even Edmonton? What makes Toronto so special?

Because it's the largest city in Canada and has lots of space in the east end of downtown, especially the portlands area.
Why Montreal? They barely have any development in taller high-rises

Hmm lets see..
Largest city in Canada, economic capital of Canada, center of business in Canada, already has buildings that are up there, is currently in a development boom..
Why wouldn't it be Toronto?

You forgot "largest Canadian city in the WHOLE WORLD!". (I am trying to think of some way to add "world class" to this, but nothing comes to mind).

Uh, largest city... existing precedents near supertall status? Though if we're talking strictly office tower, I'm almost certain Calgary will get one first.

Though I do agree with this:

Not for a while. It will end up as office. Potential lead tenants are looking for large floor plates and at the same time developers are more than satisfied with buildings in the 1 million square foot range.

Calgary has the same developers with very few exceptions. I don't see any company out there to build the next Bow either.

Vancouver, Montreal , and even Edmonton?!? C'mon dude.

It wouldn't surprise me if Calgary built Canada's first. Maybe 10 years down the road? CNR? Maybe Potash Corp will migrate to Calgary one day.

Guy, we dont even know what the final height on Aura or One Bloor will be yet.. so dont count those two out when it comes to reaching 300 meter plus territory. Also, we have movement on 45 Bay Street and of course the great unknown of "The Signature Tower" which knowing the final heights on Trump, One Bloor and Aura might jusst try for the record...

You don't care about skyscrapers or supertalls?

You're lucky you'll never have to see them going up in your lifetime then.

haha

For me, I love skyscrapers - that's why I joined this site, much better than urbantoronto, cause I get to see skyscrapers going up not only in different parts of Canada but also around the world.
