Just because we have lots of parking lots left doesnt mean we should be subject to and complacent with terrible suburban looking architecture downtown. Would NYC ever even entertain the idea of such a terrible looking building going up anywhere on Manhattan?
First of all, Houston isn't Manhattan or NYC and I am sure Manhattan has ugly buildings too. I agree with your view of the building, it looks like a suburban hotel put in downtown and that's what it is. Hopefully it is successful and will help downtown out by bringing in some more patrons.

One side of the building has now been revealed; from the angle I took these pictures you cannot see the crown on the left (south) side. What do you think?
Oh dear! Then again the skyline views from the east side were already ruined by that other vile red brick mansarded monstrosity. I guess this is just the leftover dry heaves.
