Related Midwest has released a statement on the offical transfer of the property:

Quote:
In a written statement, Related Midwest's President Curt Bailey has indicated that:

"We are pleased to have resolution on 400 N. Lake Shore Drive, the site of the former Chicago Spire project. We recognize the importance of this site to the City of Chicago and look forward to creating an architecturally significant and thoughtful development befitting this premier location. We are proud to have a long track-record of developing landmark buildings with world-class architects like 840 N. Lake Shore Drive, 500 N. Lake Shore Drive, Park Tower, 340 on the Park and most recently, 111 W. Wacker Drive. We look forward to continuing that legacy on this marquee site".

Well this is very sad news indeed on so many fronts. The Spire was the most phenomenal building ever conceived by the human mind, I really wish it had been built. Onn I appreciated all of your optimism and consistent updates. I hold out a sliver of hope that Related will do something worthy of this site and deserving of Chicago, but I strongly fear another disappointment. We are getting mediocrity at Wolf Point and will most likely now get it here as well...but at least we have the Bears...oops!

Let's hope Kelleher's back on the construction trail 8am this morning. If he did find the money he could still buy the site back from Related if they were interested in selling it, or someone else could. Turning the site into a no-name building would be a be a disaster. It's got to be the best development site left in Chicago today, it deserves a worthy design.

it all honest there isn't much difference in the Spire site and the site across the river at LSE maybe something significant will go there instead. Of course the Spire site isn't bound by wacker and has Dusable Park.

The exact same site exists just across the river in LSE.

I think we probably have less reason to trust Related when it says will build something architecturally significant than Northwestern when it says the same.

All you need to remember is that we're talking about the firm that is bringing Robert AM Stern to Chicago (and actually touting this as a positive for their project and Chicago!!!).....

Someone said that connected with lakeshore drive or something? Like it wasn't as exclusive of a site.

Hi guys,
Now that all of the excitement about the possible reviving of this project is as dead as the project itself, I thought it would be cool to see if anyone has any promotional material from when the project was still alive and well. Anyone have anything?

AFTER THE SPIRE

It was supposed to be the second-tallest building in the world. Instead, it’s the city’s biggest crater.
