Why aren't the Goldeyes somehow affiliated with the Jays?

Great fans. Great stadium.

Anyone know why the stadium faces that direction? I always pictured baseball stadiums where the batter looks out to the skyline. You know, with the buildings looming over the outfield like in St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Detroit, etc. Those make for classic shots.

Then I saw Coca Cola Field in Buffalo, where the Jays' AAA Bisons play.

I assume many old stadiums from way back the in the day didn't follow this model, but more modern ones seem to. Though I just remembered Coors Field in Denver and Great American in Cincy do not. The Cincy one faces out over the river. As does Shaw Park in Winnipeg as I just discovered.

For Yankee Stadium I'm not sure if Manhattan skyline is too far or they just wanted to replicate the old stadium exactly.

It's the same in Pittsburgh. Went to see a pirates game once and the view of the skyline is breathtaking. Hard to focus on the game with it there.

Really a missed opportunity in Winnipeg.

They play in an independent league which is independent from MLB and its affiliates.

The stadium is way up in the Bronx - there's practically no immediate skyline to capture.

Charlotte did this phenomenally well for a minor league team:

Ya Pittsburgh one is great. Took in a ball game there too. Been to the 'Burgh four times. Love visiting that place.

Had no idea about that Charlotte one. Phenomenal.

I already posted this in the stadium thread, but to increase viewership, I thought I would post it here too.

New downtown Moncton events centre (8,800 seat arena) - opening September 2018.

As for Yankee Stadium, I went to the old one in 2005 and new one in 2013. Wasn't paying attention at the time to how far it was from CBD in Manhattan.

When checking google maps it looks like about 7.5 kms to Empire State. Too far for an intimate view of the skyline, but possibly still visible.

When I was in the stadium district of Philly, only then did I realize how far it is from DT. Looks like about 5.5 kms. And that looks like this:

Yankee Stadium is farther but Manhattan's skyline is taller. Regardless, there's probably infrastructure and apartments that would obstruct the view anyway even if they had turned the stadium around.

Pittsburgh's skyline is good, but they could not have framed it any better with the outfield view from their ballpark. It's really an amazing view.

To be honest I'm not sure why Shaw Park in Winnipeg was built with the stands facing the river. I don't recall it ever being the subject of public discussion either. The configuration does seem to play up the riverside location of the park... when you're in the stands, the view is mostly riverbank trees and the CMHR looming out beyond right field. It doesn't really feel like you're downtown unless you turn around.

Nice ballpark. I'm glad at least the museum is visible in the OF.

No doubt. I assume that pic is of the River Hounds.

The entire city is one big "view". Heinz Field has a nice view. Went for a Pitt Panthers game. Couldn't afford a Steelers game.

They have two inclines going up Mt. Washington. Great views of the city and the confluence of the three rivers.

Love walking and driving through the neighbourhoods. Both nice and dumpy.

Took the elevator up the tallest building on campus at Pitt. It's a museum mixed in with classrooms. Great views. Similar to going up Peace Tower in Ottawa I think it is.

Best view is when you're driving from airport area and go through Ft. Pitt tunnel under the mountain and you see the light at the end of the tunnel. Then you get closer and when you exit, BOOM, skyline of Pittsburgh, out of nowhere.

Shaw Park

I can answer the Shaw Park question , it originally was going to face the forks and you would see Hotel Fort Garry and some of the skyline , so southeast outfield . They discovered there wasn't quite enough room and some of the outfield measurements would have been too small so they rotated it to face northeast .

Re Shaw Park.

I'd be there every weekend. Beautiful.

My question (A difficult one to answer, I admit) still stands. Perhaps I'll try.

Winnipeg is a good baseball market. Fabulous stadium. Great fans. I suppose they're doing just fine without having any sort of MLB affiliation. If they were part of the Jays' system they'd then be subject to the whims of the big club's personnel decisions i.e. An ever-changing roster that fans can't develop an attachment to. On the upside, there would likely be more financial support. Looks like they don't need it, however.

Yeah, perhaps they're better off...

All that said, I'd love to see the return of professional baseball to Canada. There used to be affiliated pro teams just about everywhere: Vancouver (still exists of course), Calgary, Medicine Hat, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Hamilton, London, St Catharines, Welland, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec and likely several others I've forgotten.

The economics of the game changed and we couldn't (or wouldn't) keep up.

Point is, they're in an independent league. I can't imagine it's that easy to just insert yourself into the MLB farm structure, even if you wanted to.
