The Weird Canada thread

This thread is a tangent off the Ugly Canada thread but for things that are just weird and interesting but not necessarily ugly.

I'll start out with this painter's hearse / ambulance that I keep seeing. I love it. Wonder if Dan Akroyd will sue him hahaha.

Another weird car I saw on the weekend but never got a pic of was quite amazing. It was a 3 wheeler Polaris with a bat wing. The driver was dressed in full batman costume. I wanna know where he was going? Did he go to the grocery store? Gas up? Pick up the kids? What kind of conversations does he have while dressed as Batman?

Edit: I found him. Of course he made the news.

Or St. Paul, Alberta where they've built an UFO landing pad.

The Flying Saucer Restaurant in Niagara Falls. It's strange and awesome and the food sucks but I still love going there.

Then again Niagara Falls has been all sorts of weird ever since the Victorians turned it into a holiday hot spot.

Since there seems to be a bit of an extra-terrestrial theme, here's the flying saucer in wonderful Moonbeam Ontario (which I have actually been to): https://goo.gl/maps/Ys5JoS2g4YL2

Not from outer space but...

The célèbre Boule à Céline was quite something in the small town of Charlemagne, QC. It was unfortunately removed a few years ago. Written on the other side of the ball : "Ce n'était qu'un rêveeeee"
Also written on the ball... hold your breath :
"Autour du monde, elle porte son message
Pour faire chanter partout sur son passage.
Liberté."

Fun fact : this is located on Céline-Dion boulevard. BUT. According to the Commission de toponymie du Québec, in order to commemorate someone in the public space (street, park, etc.), this person has to be dead since at least 24 months... For important people, this delay can be shortened to 12 months. -_- So I guess that maybe the town of Charlemagne is illegal ... OR... that Céline's dead and we didn't know about it.

Or maybe the road was named before the regulation came into force, or before the Commission started really enforcing it. There are lots of things here and there and Quebec that are named for living people but they are grandfathered I am pretty sure.

I am not saying this can never happen (for example for some salle communautaire), but this was not the case here. There was a local newspaper article stating that Charlemagne would proceed even though the Commission would refuse to officialize the odonym.

This regulation is there since quite a long time... In fact, since the Conference of Helsinki by the UNO in 1998

Hey..some of us have a lot of food in our stomach. Please think of us before you post videos like that.

Almost as bad as Celine doing her AC/DC impression.

Celine Dion reminds me of literally every embarassing french teacher I ever had. She's also the amalgamation of every Quebecois stereotype in one person. I shudder to think about her AC/DC impression...

Of course it's in a place called Moonbeam. Is it a hippy colony?
