It's never too early to complain on this forum - especially about the cladding Claridge uses.

[QUOTE=vtecyo;8293760]Ah... I misread June as July on ac888yow's image... here's an updated guesstimate - assuming winter doesn't slow them down too much.

They are on a floor per week schedule as it is now and should be able to maintain that right up until Christmas. This week they will have poured the
25th floor slab, the third floor poured since the August 16th line in your photo. As per the construction schedule, the Icon will should be topped out by the end of January keeping in mind that there are no unforseen circumstances that will delay the progress.

Strip mall storefront should fit in with the rest of the development in Ottawa. We have a great city here but skyscraper architecture and materials have always lagged by about 20 years.

Meanwhile, Edmonton is getting:

Calgary is getting:

^ Although those two examples above (Telus Sky and Stantec) are office towers - which tend to use better materials and be of higher quality than just "plain-old condos".

True, but sadly we don't have any significantly tall office proposals for the near future! I guess we will just have to settle for some much-needed density and height if the materials aren't going to be great :-(

This just in:

Claridge has announced that the tower will now be capped at 27 storeys and will be clad in leftover brick from LeBreton Flats.

just kidding

No no, the poorly insulated floor to ceiling glass in cheaper, small pieces, is currently being installed. Gotta sell those condos on visuals instead of practicality!!! The greener the better (colour-wise...) mmmmMMMMmmmm...

I know Claridge often has a bad reputation on this forum but I am certain that all the areas that look like tiny cheap windows will actually be the support walls and ductwork areas.

There are three apartments on the west side, each has a visible door and the smaller middle apartment has a window that opens. All windows are floor to ceilings/ductwork.

Now I agree this functionality makes it look A little last decade ... in fairness to Claridge, this is the same approach used in most new condo developments in Vancouver.

Always an optimist, so I am reserving opinion until the rest of the cladding is visible.

I'm eager to see this thing done, and I don't care all that much if it doesn't look like a prize-winning design. All we needed was a project help break the city out of the 70s, along with things like rail transit and the new arena. At any rate the projects due to go up around Icon will take attention away from it if it happens to be a "disaster".

I'm tying to avoid the attitude some people had with The Merit: "It looks great, but they didn't use real limestone, so it sucks". I get the feeling people have already decided that this will be ugly and are waiting for it to be topped out to achieve some kind of vindication.

This project has already triggered a bunch of other tall proposals which will hopefully become reality and serve to slow down urban sprawl. In that instance I would say Claridge has done it's part.

I agree 100%, the suburban sprawl around Ottawa is insane now, and shows no signs of slowing down. These developments will encourage more people to live in the urban parts of the city proper.

Preston is closed until September 20th as they are completing the site services for the Icon. They also poured the 26th floor slab on Friday.

Wow, going to look so tall and cool once topped out, I'm excited! Thanks for the pic!

Also, the before-last pic made it look like the windows were teal a-la Claridge Plaza which had me worried. But looks like it was just the reflection, new picture shows it looks mostly like light/clear windows.

It's really starting to impact the skyline from everywhere now. I looks like a centerpiece for Little Italy when viewed from the bridge on Bronson overlooking the Canal and Col By drive...
