Snow Watch 2011

Figured instead of having all discussion over the place and often more than not in the Road Infrastructure thread, we could use this to chat about this bitter cold snap we're going through right now, and how the fact that even a few inches on Friday night around midnight can so easily cripple this city/metro region.

Seattle appears to have gotten hit pretty good this AM, and even now, it's clouded over pretty good, and recently I've seen a few trace flurries where I am.

Either way, looks like perhaps a decent winter is ahead of us. We shall see.

well, the forecast for this week calls for some snow turning into rain and mild temperatures.. so probably it'll be a typical vancouver winter from the end of this week until mid-december?

Rainsnow on Thursday, followed by warmer temperatures but a week of rain.
No more big snowfalls though.
It was chilly and windy today coming home from school. I'm wearing my jacket and scarf in front of the PC and I've been here for more than an hour; I'm still cold. Hopefully the heat coming off my PC running Folding@Home makes things warmer

Looks like more snow for wednesday/thursday, and then after that we'll be back to the typical 6-8C highs. Oh, and rain.

One thing about this cold snap, man it's clear out in the mornings

Just a picture to show you how little you actually have to complain about in BC

My window this morning in Calgary after -37 overnight temps.

watching KCPQ - man seattle wow - they are showing streets that are just sheets of ice - there is one street where there are 6 cars piled up down the slope and they haven't moved in 24 hours! they were just left there all smooshed and iced together

its colder down there than here - its -10c in some areas and -15 in some

already started snowing up at SFU. very light flurries, mind you, and I'm hoping that it won't be similar to what happened in seattle (light flurries turning into heavy snow just in time for rush hour).

Ouch.

Vancouver is gridlocked, Highway 1 westbound is backed up to almost Abbotsford, and now they're calling for 10-15 cm of snow today.

Highway 1 suuuucked for me today. Gaglardi to Willingdon took much longer than it usually does.. otherwise traffic was OK today. 25 minutes late to class.

Left here to head to Surrey this AM around 6:45.

Road was relatively clear, but I turned around at McCallum since traffic was reported to start to backup around 264 all the way to Port Mann, and also the road was slowly getting worse and worse.

Open letter to the idiot cyclists trying to prove what die-hards they were and riding their 10-speeds on snow covered streets: Don't drag the rest of us into your death wish. Some days you have to suck it up an take transit.
