I mean, I've heard a lot of NIMBY nonsense before, but vocalizing your worry that your privacy is threatened because a building is being built across the street? Is that a joke?

Ald Pawar has generally been in support of TOD and has been less of a NIMBY panderer than others, so there is some hope

Worried about traffic? Ask the developer to reduce parking. Ask Trader Joe's to remove parking (and put in permit parking to reduce overflow). Put in a Divvy station near the grocery store. Put in bike racks.

I'd like to see the Lincoln bus brought back. It seems like the operating cost could be shared by businesses along the route. Set up a Special Service District or BID or something.

Flew by Wacker/Clark in a cab today and from what I could see the concrete was being smashed up for the riverwalk. I'd say that's as close to a groundbreaking as you can get for a project that occupies no ground. Hopefully one of our roving photographers can get some shots on their next rounds. Progress on this makes me happier than most things, though the segmented nature of the project gives me concerns it may get abandoned after one or two blocks. Fingers crossed!

So they're actually building what we saw in those concept designs from a few weeks ago?

So there was a building permit issued yesterday for what appears to be the Cook County hospital for almost $13 million. Anybody have any idea of what this means? I'll assume it has nothing to do with plans to redevelop it.

"INTERIOR ALTERATIONS TO EXISTING 8-STORY HOSPITAL FOR INSTALLATION OF CLEAN STEAM SYSTEM LL THROUGH FLOOR 5 PER PLAN."

^ Not sure, but I can say one thing: they can't be planning to spend $13 million on a structure that they intend to demolish.

Anyhow, there was recent news that the County plans to move forward on a renovation

Also, I like 55 Wacker. It's a nice little building and adds to the variation of height on the south wall. However, my biggest gripe about the river corridor is on the north side. I really hate that Westin and would love to see something much bigger and better replace it. Also, that small parking lot behind the Britannica Building. Something tall with a cantilever should be developed there. Anyone know the parking lot I'm talking about and are able to upload a pic of it? it would me much appreciated.

Thanks - in this case - I work across the river from it.

Thanks Harry but I'm talking about the actual parking lot. The one that faces Clark St. I think it currently serves that rug company that moved into the bld a couple years ago.

That is pretty small - was a nice little green space last century.

^^^Thanks Harry! I don't think that lot is too small though. It's bigger than the small lot north of Millennium Park Plaza (formerly Doral Apartments) where a tower is planned.

I'm usually in favor of nuking surface lots and filling in the sidewalks, but that one never really bothered me for whatever reason. Maybe that arbor makes it interesting enough that my infill alarm doesn't go off.

Still, the way river north is going I wouldn't count out a small structure going up just to provide a storefront or two.

My apologies if this has been posted already (I looked but didnt see it), but I just found this:

http://southportcorridorchicago.blogspot.com/

This is good news, I dont really care for the way the new building looks, but at least it hugs the corner and the street appropriately.
