Lots of young people living in condos with tiny kitchens and even smaller fridges.

You see the same phenomenon here in Toronto.

I believe that Montreal has the second highest amount of restaurants per capita in North America after New York. So, apparently, we still have some catching up to do.

I think the re-vamped Social Corner on Smither Street is doing well. Both indoors and patio were completely full this evening. It has also looked busy on many other nights.

Great to see that corner becoming more busy again.

It was a similar situation in ancient Rome most apartments had no kitchens so cooked food was purchased on the street daily.

Wonder how they're doing in the morning/lunch. Just the concept makes me think it will be closed by next year.

I saw the story on television, but I haven't noticed anything different with how busy they are. I doubt the boycott will last long.

More of a PR mistake than anything by Earls. I doubt anyone will go or not go to Earls in BC because of that change.

I'm sure Earls made this choice based on feedback from their customers and preference in the market. Alberta is complaining because they are behind the times and can't meet the need for this type of beef. Earls and their customers are voting with their wallet.

Not the first time Alberta is caught behind the times... The next few decades could prove problematic for a province that continues to go "all in" on fossil fuels.

Sure the Canadian beef industry is stupid for not getting "certified" ahead of the game. I doubt this is an "Alberta" mindset problem like you're trying to insinuate.

The Alberta farmers and Alberta residents are the ones getting all worked up about it (See facebook posts above). Basically they are whining and being sore losers, as opposed to addressing the actual issue. No doubt these are the same people that profess to believe in the free market as the answer to all economic issues.

They only noticed this now?

Earls removed high chairs waaay back when they changed their focus from family dining to pseudo-bar / lounge.

Earls reverses decision on Canadian beef.

From the Globe and Mail:

"Earls, the restaurant chain that announced last week that its move to Certified Humane meat meant it would no longer source beef from Canadian farmers, has reversed its position, calling the original decision “a mistake.”"

Cue up the PR 101 screwup lesson plan. If it was the ethical decision, then why fold after one week?

Free market wins, Earls folds.
