"A San Diego development firm, OliverMcMillan, is taking over the massive but stalled Streets of Buckhead retail project from Atlanta developer Ben Carter.
Carter on Thursday told the AJC he has been pushed aside from the project, which he launched in 2006, so thatOliverMcMillan can bring in new capital and finish it.
Carter said earlier this year he was close to a deal for $200 million to finish the six-block complex."
All I have to say is GOD I hope 2011 is a better year for contruction than the last two years have been...

Isn't the downtown street car loop supposed to start construction in 2011, as well?
The Biz Chronicle reports that there are a couple of new luxury projects in the pipeline for the Buckhead village area . An 8-story residential building adjacent to the St. Regis Hotel is being planned, with no timetable for development at the moment. The other is a five-story apartment project and Peachtree and Pharr Roads across from the SOB. The developer hopes to start construction this spring or summer.
What Now Atlanta blog reports that a a building permit with the City of Atlanta was filed on Feb. 7, to commence construction on the dual-branded hotel at Williams and 10th Street that was announced back in 2008.
Well, it looks like a couple of fellows have bought the dang SOB thing down in Buckhead and claim they are going to get started on it but I have never heard of either one.
According to a study done for the GWCC, keeping the Dome and building a new open-air stadium on GWCC property is feasible. The total estimated cost is $700 million. The study includes improvements and maintenance on the Dome. The GWCC can now begin detailed discussions with the Falcons on building a new stadium.
That makes sense. Even though we have a large domed stadium that is immediately adjacent to a subway stop and is less than 20 years old (and clearly still viable based on their plans to keep it), lets build a new stadium that is a one mile walk to the nearest rail transit.
It's not that far. I'm hoping sidewalk improvements are made. I think it could even spur development along the path like bars and restaurants. It's one of the older football stadiums and the Falcons were basically told they wouldn't get a superbowl again with the current stadium. There are a lot of reasons in favor of a new stadium.
According to Google Maps walking directions, it is indeed 1 mile to the Civic Center or Dome/GWCC stations.
Lets not kid ourselves about development spurred by a stadium. For a great example, look at how much development there is around Turner Field.
Of course I want to keep the Falcons in the city. I just don't want to be saddled with the costs of a $700 million stadium when that money could be used for things that would more directly influence economic development and quality of life. Now if Arthur Blank and the GWCC step up and fund all/most of the stadium, fine. I just don't see that happening.
I don't mean to come off as negative on this project, and of course I realize the potential economic benefits (hosting a superbowl, development in the surrounding area, increased uses for the dome), but it rubs me the wrong way when billionaire owners want to have local taxes pay for much of a new stadium. If it's really needed, pay for it yourself. Then have the city kick in funds to improve the sidewalks/roads/safety/etc in the surrounding area. That seems fair to me.
