It does. I'm looking forward to seeing continued progress. I can't help but wonder if the additional space will help BHM land some new destinations?

That's what they're going for. Seems like they're banking on a future Atlanta relief valve.

I remember when people were complaining about how "no one would ever wanna go to a dangerous place in Birmingham!!!!" I'm so glad we've started to turn around public opinion in this town... The bookings that the facility has experienced will do wonders in improving the image the city has outside of it, and from within.

I just hope this hotel project doesn't turn out to be some cookie cutter Best Western...

I think the lighting feature on the childrens hospital looks great. it adds color and life to the skyline and thats something that the birmingham skyline can use.

where is the westin? i was there this weekend and tried to find new things but i don't believe i saw any new construction like that.

The north side of 20/59 next to the BJCC near the Expressway interchange.

I agree. I wish we would see some more lighting on our existing building - like the lighting feature for City Federal.

"A component of the new terminal design is a new Federal Inspection Station to facilitate direct international air traffic. The station would allow BHM to accommodate non-stop flights departing to and arriving from international locations."

This never occurred to me before

...well, it did when returned to the US and had to stop in Atlanta and go through that hell, but I never realized that that was such a big impediment to direct intl' flights (duh!).

I wish there was more information, but good to know.

That's good news. There's still a lot of life left in the Galleria. All you have to do is look at the phenomenal growth along 150 to recognize the potential. Hoover, Vestavia and Homewood need to work together in revitalizing Montgomery Highway.

An ONB survey, which is being officially released today, shows that 93 percent of the downtown condo properties are sold. The downtown apartment and rental market was even tighter at 99.4 percent leased, according to the survey prepared by the downtown advocacy group.

That's an impressive statistic. I'm hoping we see some additional construction in the near future. The only thing I can think of currently under construction is 29Seven in Lakeview.

any of you had a chance to go to vulcan or the club since the completion of children's? good lord, talk about impact... that thing dwarfs the uab hospital and women's & children's center next door....

Children's is definitely an impressive addition to the southside skyline.

Southside is really going to be booming with the Railroad Park and new ballpark. Too bad the UA BOT is trying to block UAB's oncampus stadium because it would really be another big boost to the southside economic development.

I really think the stadium will happen eventually. Soon, all of this stuff will turn into a lot of bad publicity for the system and the BOT will be forced to do SOMETHING. Plus, I think with the next round of research and investigations that UAB presents about the on campus stadium studies, the BOT will have many fewer reasons to say no.
