tear down a 3,700 room casino and build a smaller casino in its place, can't ever see that happening in mid-strip. flamingo renovated a 1/3 of its rooms into go suites in 2007

i worked at the flamingo a couple summers ago and had access to the executive meeting room. they had a bunch of renderings of their planned remodel. they all included a remodeled casino and a new club/ beach club above on the southwest corner of the property. most included recladding the hotel towers. a few with a cool smoke colored glass. complete remodel of the 17 acre pool area. and one even included a new tower on the northeast corner of the property aligned with the current towers. i wish i had pics. not sure if these are still relevant. maybe delayed? a reclad seems like it wouldn't be too difficult. if you look closely, the current windows are installed between the floor slabs so they would be easy to remove and hang a new facade. i wouldn't mind seeing the flamingo stick around with some new skin.

I like that idea. Don't get me wrong I love the meg resorts coming to Vegas, but a small resort could fit well on The Strip.

I imagine Harrah's, IP, and O'Sheas being torn down and a small, yet spacious casino-resort being built there.

But were will teenagers get alcohol without getting carded? Think of the disservice you will be doing by demolishing O'Sheas.

I hate to sound rude and all but O'Sheas is just old and ghetto IMO.
And those kids can find a place. Vegas is a huge city.

the only thing that we would have if they knocked IP, harrahs, o'sheas, flamingo and casino royale is a huge empty lot ala whats left of frontier, once city center and fblue finish up thats it people, no more resorts on the strip for years and years and years

Oh I forgot about Casino Royale. That has to go too.

They will never get rid of Flamigo. Its the original. They should make an extension of it in the land that belonged to IP.

My plans would be bulldoze CR, Harrah's, Oshea's and IP, build a new, modern expansion to Flamingo in the land of O'Sheas and partly IP, and build a nice maybe tower-esque hotel where Harrah's, CR, and the other part of IP was, next to the Venetian.

I'll make a map of it shortly.

Ok, here's something I made on paint.
As you can see the Flamingo exp. I was talking about isn't huge.

Also, I don't think Harrah's would mind their hotels going down. Look at all those future projects they plan to build.

My main reason for thinking of this is becuase that area of the Strip is just too old and crowded.

I think Harrah's is too broke to do much of anything right now. Selling off their empire piece by piece, starting with Bally's and Paris, is more likely. Just like MGM is having to do to get CityCenter finished. Overall it should be a positive for Las Vegas, since service started downhill several years ago when these two firms began buying up and homogenizing every casino/hotel in sight.

harrahs can't even complete their new caesars tower, never mind building another casino.

i agree the breakup of the mgm/harrahs duopoly will be a good thing for the vegas, as much bad press as harrahs gets at least they didn't remove every theme from the casinos they bought up, thank god mgm never got their hands on caesars

Well construction comes in booms here in Vegas. The first major one was in the early 90's. Then there was another boom in the early 2000's.

It all depends upon the economy. Hopefully things will stop getting worse by the time City Center is complete. When the economy stabilizes and comes back I think we will see another massive building boom.

I think there were so many great ideas that went bust, but at least the boom ignited a small wave of development, including The Signature, Palms Place, Cosmo, Trump, and Encore.

I'm probably most excited about CityCenter. It's over-the-top ambitious attitude in design is something that could only be born out of a housing boom. It's a shame it has to open in such a disastrous economy, but it'll definitely help Vegas grow and be the biggest new draw to the Vegas economy for many years.

Actually, the last floor is the one above the last tan colored band... the floor above that is mechanical, and the swoop is just framing.

I should have said that we were UNDER the last "e".

Vegasrex.com is reporting that the north side of the PH tower will also get the yellow westgate sign.

The website gives NO clue as to the direction the project will take. No offer to sale, no convention booking link (as Hyatt had), no employement info, no info on retail leasing. No nothing!

I suppose they have lots of behind the scenes deals cooking. The ladies at the sales office almost read off a script and look around like they think they are being recorded, which they probably are.

Very curious...
