Carbone "worked" fairly hard to earn its reputation of a place that struggles to get table turns for lunch at the 90 minute mark. Guess people have figured out you can get similar pizza for less money with more topping and in a tenth the time at a couple other places downtown.

Frankie's Italian Kitchen looking to build in the parking lot of the Outlet Collection across from IHOP. Looks like a Vancouver based restaurant and this is the first location outside of Vancouver. http://clkapps.winnipeg.ca/DMIS/View...onId=&InitUrl=

ChaChi Sandwich is now open at Polo Park, while Taco Time is now boarded up.

It looks like Polo Park is trying to replace some of the food outlets to a more 'upscale' replacement.

Arby's -- > Hoi An Vietnamesse (Not a true replacement)
Koyo Japan --> Edo Japan
Cultures --> ChaChi's Sandwhiches
Taco Time ---> ??? BarBurrito

Will we see A&W being replaced with Big Smoke Burger? However I believe A&W was recently remodel.

I know not high end at all but for some reason I liked Taco Time, simple but tasty.

A&W likely has fairly secure lease terms of the Polo Park food court. After all they did give up their stand alone location on the north end of the mall just outside Hudson Bay.

The one that really feels out of place in the Polo Park food court is KFC.

Segovia, Deer + Almond among Canada's best restaurants

On Tuesday, two Winnipeg restaurants were named to the Canada's Best 100 Restaurants list: Osborne Village's Segovia and the Exchange District's Deer + Almond.

The annual list, determined by a national panel of 97 judges, including chefs, restaurateurs, journalists, gourmets and industry leaders, is considered the Michelin Guide of Canada.

In listing it at No. 46, the judges singled out the contemporary takes on tapas at Segovia, run by Adam Donnelly and Carolina Konrad, who also operate Clementine in the Exchange.

"There are many reasons for sitting up and paying attention to Winnipeg’s improving culinary scene — and Segovia is the strongest case in point," judges said.

Deer + Almond, whose chef, Mandel Hitzer, also runs the annual Raw: Almond pop-up restaurant on the frozen Red and Assiniboine rivers, came in at No. 75.

"I can’t say enough how grateful I am for Winnipeg’s support," Hitzer said in a release. "We couldn’t do it without each of every supporter of the restaurant and the river pop-up. We are inspired by you."

The No. 1 restaurant on the list is Toronto's Alo.

I always find the fascination with fast food outlets on this thread fascinating.

George's Burgers & Subs on McPhillips may be going out of business after being evicted by their landlord for unknown reasons just out of the blue.

The Choice Properties Reit website has a Mary Browns going in that spot previously occupied by George’s Burger.

Arent there are other George’s locations in the city? The article implies this location is the owners only business. I’m confused by that. Doesn’t seem like something with so few locations would be franchises.
