We'll have to see once it is complete, but I don't mind the reclad on the City Centre Tower. To me, it's starting to look Van de Rohe-ish.

I had a great tour of this project, Eastwood Community Health Centre, 2 weeks ago. It is turning out very nice.

from grade up i think we agree - from grade down, i'll reserve judgement until maybe the middle of january or so. for the time being, i think i'll be pretty happy not to have to go either up or down this ramp...

^ I'd assume there is a glycol heating loop for the ramp...

That "thing" is just NASTY and an insult to the word "art". I can only guess that Gootch of yours was involved.

^ It's all about the context, and given the lack of investment on 118th ave I welcome this building, as I'm sure the people who will occupy it shortly will too. No Ed Gooch did not design it. But thanks for playing.

^to be honest it isn't all that bad except 3/4 of the street level.

There are similar versions of this on hastings, commercial, and victoria in vancouver.

It'll be nice to get some people living above 118th. The stretch from 94-92 has come a long way, this can only help

It is supposed to be done this week. There is also a heat loop in the drainage trough.

If you go into the parkade, it's size is quite impressive.

^^ no kidding, I watched that building go up as it is on my driving route to work... kudos to Capital health for putting much of the parking underground. U/G parking extends from under the new building, all the way to the back of the property where the ramp is & there'll be some nice greenspace on top.

You get a whole differnet perspective of the size of the job by going under it.

Oh COME ON. Comparing this project to crap built early in the 20th century in Vancouver doesn't help your argument. You should know better. Much better.

dude... not the wonderful, yet forgotten, buildings with real materials and character, but 1980-2009 ones.

There are many buildings on those 3 routes that are similar in design, material choice, and cost.

thank you kindly

I think everyone can agree that while not a stellar example of architectural excellence the building will go far in creating a new vibe on that stetch of the ave, building on what's been done on the blocks to the west

I agree, the building isn't bad at all.

No, I don't mind these at all. In fact, Serenity has picked up in my books.

any interest in a small wager (say something that weighs in about 2,750 pounds or so?) that there will be lots of weather and days where it won't be enough to keep it ice free? and it won't necessarily be those -35 days either but those that are about -5 or -10 with a nice bit of freezing rain or wet snow and a bit of a breeze... they better keep door panels in stock as well as glycol.
