For me, what really stands out from this tower is its use of travertine. The stonework gives the building a higher sense of class than most others I believe. It's too bad you really don't notice it unless you walk right up to it.

Just a random thought but if Minas Tirith progressed to the modern architectural age, their skyscrapers would look like this.

The building is going through some minor renovations at ground level - the 'Grace' sign has been removed.

I do love the curve on this building, and it's 'sibling' the Solow building. Personally I prefer the overall look of Solow, but to be fair, both are nice looking.

I'm glad to see a thread for this skyscraper. Apparently Gordon Bunshaft originally came up with the facade used here, when he was working on the Solow. But Solow's developer rejected it, and he decided to use it on another project.

^^^ Yup, happily noticed that a couple weeks ago. The renovations look great and seem to be wrapping up. Right now they're re-doing the sidewalk in front of the building.

This building has a twin, the Chase Tower in Chicago. It's amazing how similar they are, when I first saw the Chase Tower my reaction was deja vu, I was like I've seen this before somewhere....

not quite a twin but very close .....funny thing is Chicago Chase Tower (1964-1969) was designed 10 years before Grace (1974) perhaps and most likely it was an inspiration for the architect.....

It's funny how 'Chicago' the Chase Building is, I never even realized it. It's like these two buildings are the colloquial variations on the same theme. Grace would never have been built in Chicago, and Chase never in NY.

Elegant building, which has aged gracefully, unlike so many from that period.

Planning a trip to New York in September, and I know that I have to visit the Grace building. I love the curves and how different it looks from different angles. Look forward to taking some pictures of my own. And I think that I will have to take the Mrs. to STK for dinner. That place looks awesome!
