^? Does Seattle have a federal building being redone too?
Sorry, I just finally got a great look at it after a weekend in Seattle near the new Amazon and Gates Foundation offices. Compared to when I first went to Seattle in 2006 things have really changed, but as cool as this is for Portland that's just something that makes Portland.
When are they going to finish the exterior of the building -- surely they're going to connect the graduation cap to the rest of the building more elegantly, right?
I agree... I don't like how it is presently attached...visually it looks unfinished too me. When I lived in Portland and the Paramount Hotel was built I complained to the owners regarding the large openings around the roof...some had screens (iron work) shielding the installed roof top air conditioners(?)...some did not. It look unbalanced and unfinished too me. Management agreed and stated that the others would be covered to compliment the total look. I don't think they ever followed through..

that building turned out much better than I was even expecting. Got to see the landscaping around the building a couple days ago and was really impressed with it overall. I also like how this building looks in the skyline, it definitely stands out in a more unique way.
I don't remember the old building being walled off like that. Was it?
No, because it was built before the OKC bombing. After that, new federal buildings have a perimeter designed to prevent cars from getting too close to the base of the building.
