The parking garage isn't coming down anytime soon, but it could be the base for an array of aesthetically placed solar panels to generate electricity and hide a good chunk of the brutalism.
You know, I wonder if they are going to reuse the same anchors or insert new ones for the new cladding.
I curious as to which one's more efficient - building new cladding to match the old fasteners, or removing the old anchors and installing a brand new system.
With the new cladding and glass on this building, along with the addition of First and Main, that corner is going to sprout some new energy. Funny thing, once the remodel is done, I bet a visitor passing through will assume Edith Wyatt is a brand new building.
Even if this re-skin were happening during the boom years (before 2008) it would be one of the most exciting projects in town. What a huge improvement the new design will be. Thanks to all those in PDX providing updates.
Incidentally, PacificNW, could you change the title of this thread from "Proposed" to "Under Construction"? We don't have too many under construction these days.
It was raining buckets today at lunch but I wanted to get a couple pics of the crane going up. I forgot my camera on Friday when it started. They used a temporary crane to set up about 8 to 10 stories or so of the crane tower, then they lifted the top piece in place, and they've been using the crane itself to lift and slide in more pieces.
