Maybe. It might need a little help from the PDC like it helped the Lentils. The Gatewayans (not to be confused as related to the Wayans brothers) have been waiting for the PDC to do something for a looong time.

A few more buildings like this on the Weidler/Halsey couplet, in addition to the PBLs the city will install in the next few years may just make this neighborhood.

I hope so. There is so much underutilized land out this way. If I had the money I'd start buying up land because I honestly think with a few large scale projects, Gateway is going to take off.

A good gauge of Gateway success is the current state of Lents. Foster/Woodstock has about 7 buildings recently built or under construction and a new food cart area near the MAX. That might be enough to revitalize the neighborhood finally. Gateway could see a similar focus by the city.

The Portland Design Commission approved a proposal to build a four-story, 159-unit affordable housing project at 9747 N.E. Glisan St. in the Gateway district.

The building, located near a MAX line, will include nine vehicle parking spaces. About 7,000 square feet will be set aside for community rooms, offices and bike storage.

The developer is Northwest Housing Alternatives, and the building was designed by MWA Architects.

Looks good. Gateway is so underrated. Right behind this site is huge swath of land that’s been growing weeds and fenced up for years begging for development. A huge grocery store and major transit station right across the street. Just blows my mind how this area isn’t gentrified yet. Downtown, airport, etc all just multiple stops away. Just weird

Glisan TOWER?! For the Gateway area??!! That's amazing news! <clicks on link> Oh....it's 8 stories high. I think calling it a "tower" is really reaching, but overall a wonderful development and hopefully we see a lot more of these getting built all over Gateway until it feels like a dense urban district.

Agreed. Gateway is perfectly positioned, it’d be a great site for a huge redevelopment. The only thing holding it back is that it’s east of the 205. I’m convinced that if this site was literally just on the other side of the freeway it would have already been developed. Developers seem hesitant to build anything besides affordable housing east of the 205. Nobody wants to be the first to take the leap.
