Let's Do Budapest, Quickly

Awesome, awesome city. Complex. Not as advertised at all. Has it's own character. And the goulash? God damn.

There she is:

Seriously delicious...

Poor Buda doesn't get a lot of love beyond the Castle District, but it's quite appealing:

And as a bonus slice-of-life...this poor little fella was having car troubles:

Not for long:

See ya, Budapest!

Thanks for the Unicum.

It amazes me how Budapest did such an incredible job at rebuilding after the war, what an impressive and beautiful city. Thanks for the photos.

Thank you for posting these excellent photos. Budapest is definitely on the list of cities I want to visit. How does it compare with Prague?

Great pics! But where is Budapest advertised as anything other than one of the great European capitals, an awesome and complex city?

I just heard a lot of "Paris of Central Europe" tone and tenor before visiting. What I found instead was an aggressive utilitarianism. It did not feel like a European capital at all. It was its own, and didn't care. Everyone is too busy figuring life out. I loved it.

There was a lot of the same trend over Paris as all over Europe for the (post-war) modern era. Nothing unusual. I know some people who visited this place and enjoyed it too.

Europe ruined by the war had to rebuild fast and often cheap. It might be more blatant over there because of the relatively smaller scale and of the Soviet influence. USSR was famously an expert of understated brutal functionalism.

I was in Budapest on vacation in mid to late november. We both thoroughly enjoyed our visit. An incredible treasury of Great architecture rivaled by few cities on earth. I am especially fond of the many traces of Art Nouveau and secessionist styles in buildings and street furniture. Very Much of the 19th century built environment is intact, in spite of German and Russian forays. The food and drink are Splendid andd cheap. Thank you for posting this. Budapest is high on the list.
