Wonderful photos. Looks like a pretty good sized city. I think I like century city the best; I like how it adds to the density. This shot is great:

Sadly, many of the older buildings in Perth were razed to make way for some of the 1970s International Style skyscrapers - for example: AMP Chambers was built in 1915 and was demolished in 1973 to make way for the AMP Centre (140 St Georges Terrace), the dark brown "box" on the left of the second picture.

A few survive, such as the art deco Gledden Building (1938) near the BankWest Tower on Hay Street.

Totally reminds me of Calgary in Western Canada.. the tall clean buildings all built within a short timeframe at the expense of the older buildings.

Great shots!! Although I'm sure Perth isn't too far out of the ordinary for Australia, it has always fascinated me quite a bit, and I'm pretty sure that has almost everything to do with the fact that it is the most remote big city in the world.

I would love to visit Perth one day. I get a kick out being in major cities that are really isolated. Perth is I think truly the final frontier of Western civilization.

Betcha Perth and Calgary have a lot in common...not the palm trees, of course.

^Ooops, someone already made that comparison. My bad.

$1.85 Billion Perth World Trade Center to Transform Local Skyline
Quote:
Following the sale of public lands at the heart of Perth's city centre to real estate giant and Chairman of the World Trade Center Association, Jordanian billionaire Ghazi Abu Nahl, the developer's proposal for a $1.85 billion (AUD) mixed-use project has been given the green light by Western Australian Premier Colin Barnett. The Perth World Trade Center is set to become the tallest highrise in Western Australia, and will dramatically transform the local skyline.

Fantastic photos!.. kudos

Perth does look modern and clean.

And, Yes, I can see some parallels with Calgary in the modern and clean aspect, although it seems like Perth is even more isolated then Calgary.

Someone told me the other day that the ocean temperature at Perth's beaches is actually quite cool most of the year, like Southern California style, which surprised me because the water looks very tropical/clear. I thought it would've been like bath water. Is this true?
