AB Trans did a study for the rebuild of Deerfoot/Glenmore way back in 2006,
seen here. It's pretty much what's in place at Stoney NE/Deerfoot with elements of Stoney NW/16 Ave and Henday/Gateway Blvd. It'd no doubt be Alberta's most expensive interchange ever. The recently completed
2020 Deerfoot study recommended a slightly cheaper but almost identical rebuild as the 2006 study. We've therefore known the best way to fix the interchange for 2 decades but have simply chosen to not do it. ROW will also have to be acquired from adjacent businesses for the flyovers. Either way, we're moving in the right direction because the currently planned and funded twinning of the Deerfoot bridge over Glenmore is a required stage 1 for the ultimate buildout and will significantly help southbound traffic which grinds to a halt on Calf Robe every afternoon.
Additional lane northbound between McKnight and 64 Ave is now open, though it suffers from the same fate as southbound between Beddington and McKnight where mergers feel the need to force their way over in the first 100 meters nuking traffic, despite their lane now continuing on for another full kilometer.
