Jon Gillies is likely going to be the guy, I'd like to see him stay down for another year, but I doubt we are going to sign another goalie.

Going to hurt until (hopefully for Edmonton) the cap balances it out but at the end of the day you have to do that deal. Too bad for the Oilers Mcdavid isn't superstitious enough to take $ 9.7 Mil like Crosby.

Actually, FWIW, a $13.25M per year contract would be $17.7M/yr CDN anyway......

Apparently it's around 16-17% of total cap, which isn't out of line with what Crosby signed at for his second contract...15%.

Ah ok, I was thinking they might try and take a shot on a guy like Mason or Condon
Hopefully they don't rush him!

Sad news from seasons past. Dave Semenko has died. Semenko was Gretzky's protector and a fan favorite here.

RIP indeed. I saw/spoke to him but a few months ago and he looked fit, strong and good.

Very sad. Awesome guy.

This photo is probably one of the most iconic from the enforcers era, some tough SOB's back in the day

In other news, Benoit Pouliot has been placed on waivers for the purpose of a buyout

Sounds like Kris Versteeg is going to re-sign with the Flames for a 1 year deal at $1.75m. Great deal, if true.

I'm interested to see if the Marleau to the Flames rumours turn out to be true. He could be a good acquisition if the price is right.

If the Flames are bringing an old guy in, it should be Iggy.

I guess the entire Flames front office is going out to celebrate Canada Day tomorrow as they've been very busy in the last 24+ hours

Signed D Michael Stone 3yr/$10.5

Traded
D Keegan Kanzig and 2019 6th to Carolina
Received
G Eddie Lack (Carolina retains 50% salary), D Ryan Murphy (since waived) and 2019 7th

Really impressed with Flames management, they look to be going for a run at the cup! just need a top line right winger and we're ready to go...

The problem with what the Flames have done is they are still only a fringe elite team at best and they've sold away the next decade to get there. Brian Burkes influence is strong because this is exactly what he did to the Leafs granted the Flames are a lot better than the Leafs were. They aren't even the best team in their own province.

Yup, they'll have a really good team. Sounds like an '80s redux. Good but not good enough
