The Jib is gone! Should only be a few more days until the crane is completely gone.

Back from a crazy busy few weeks in this awesome but exhausting city to start posting again. Thanks for posting randy. That was my guess when I saw them parked outside my office. Crazy how small they look up there; check out how big they ACTUALLY are!

I assume 3 of 4 and that #4 was already being prepped:

What's with all the lines hanging off the mast? They're not going to surprise us by putting the radome back are they? (only in my dreams...)

They are extension cords for the lights at the top. Durst was trying to save some money.

My god that's gorgeous, I think we found the one penthouse in NY that's better than the clock tower.

By the way, can someone explain me why the ring is not included in the structural height?

This is a massive ring, it has such a big size. But it's not included.
On the other side, the thin spires of the Petronas towers are fully included !

Crazy isn't it?

I believe the ring is what in fact brings it to 1,368 ft.

No I believe the building itself is 1,368 ft. I believe the rings are somewhere in the 1,400ft or more range? If someone can clarify

The top of the Parapet is 1,368ft (where the glass and aluminum end).

The reason they don't include the ring / mast is that it's not "structural" and is added on top. Honestly, it's very loose definition that's started a lot of arguments but that's the way it is.

The rationale is that you could just anchor a big thin mast to the top of any building and suddenly increase it's height, which matters why you build something to be the tallest, and then someone else just goes and adds a new section to their big stick.

When the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building were going up in tandem, this was a big issue because they were competing to be tallest in the world.

Personally, I think highest occupied space is more important of a figure. If the building has a defined roof line (like this does) then it's easier to set a roof height (not including all the stuff on top) but if the whole building is a spire (like the Burj Kalifah) then it's even harder to define.

That's what I have said all along.

I agree with everything you said, but you made one small mistake. The Chrysler and ESB were not built in tandem. It was 40 Wall Street and Chrysler that were competing for worlds tallest in 1930. It looked like 40 WS was gonna win but then Chrysler unveiled its spire and took the title until 1931 when ESB was completed. When ESB was built it was competing with the other skyscrapers of the world in the way Mike Tyson would "compete" with an infant in a boxing match
