That's funny. That would be great trying to market a new tower with his own buildings falling down before it.

This must be the strategy of Alan Patton, the lawyer who seems to be representing a bunch of developers. He was the one that went before city hall opposing the building the county is proposing near the forks. I think he was representing Tricar and didn't want the view of the Renaissance towers blocked, as if they have a right to a view.

I hope they call his bluff. We have so many proposals downtown right now so he doesnt have any leverage to make too many demands.

if the buildings are in that bad of shape, there is no reason the new development can't utilize the fronts of the buildings into the design and construction, or at least use the same look if the current materials are in that bad of shape that they would crumble while being taken down and stored until being put back up in the construction phase.

New use for the former Futureshop building on Wellington

http://blog.mec.ca/2016/04/18/mec-london-is-moving/

and

http://www.lfpress.com/2016/04/19/ou...ellington-road

London's Mountain Equipment Co-op is moving to a new location that will double the popular gear store's current size.

MEC will move from 1230 Wellington Rd., just north of Exeter Road, to 1051 Wellington Rd., just north of Bradley Ave., where Future Shop used to be located.

"Our existing store in London – the second smallest in Canada – can only offer a limited range of products due to its size and layout," said MEC top executive Sandy Treagus.

"That's why we jumped at the opportunity to move into premises we believe are ideally suited to serve our growing membership base in and around the region."

The move will happen in the fall of 2016.

The new 24,000-square-foot-space will offer more products as well as a full-service bike repair and ski-tech shop as well as an equipment rental program for boats, skis and camping gear.

The new site will also have a community meeting room available for local outdoor clubs or outdoor organizations, according to a statement from MEC.

The outdoor retailer has 80,000 local members, said London store manager Marten Mann.

"We are stoked at the prospect of bringing more great products and community services to enthusiasts. Outdoor recreation opportunities abound in southwestern Ontario and we are always keen to support people in their activities," Mann said.

The store will operate on renewable energy when it opens, officials said.

Construction on the new space will begin in May. The store will continue to function at its current location until the fall.

MEC has more than 4 million members across Canada. To make a purchase, shoppers must buy a $5 lifetime membership.

This has been in the works for a while now, but it's a small plaza being built on the corner of Southdale & White Oak Road. So far there is a Dominos, Subway and Tim Hortons (with a double drive thru), but also a small space for future development. I drive by this place almost everyday, and so far only the Tim Hortons framework is going up.

There is also this Tim Hortons being built on Wharncliffe Road, which looks like it is almost done. The building is up, they are finishing up on the interior right now.

There are already 2 Timmies at the Warncliffe & Southdale intersection. Would these close or will we double the Tim's count in this area?

The map is missing the new tricar buildings up at richmond and sunningdale, 3rd one in old east on king, and the new tricar building down by wonderland and southdale. haven't been in the city since last christmas, but i know those were all active or are active now. possible more over by wonderland and oxford? thought i heard of a few going up behind the Rona or something, forget who was building them though.

And the Rygar buildings, only listed as 1 building currently, should be 2 (or is it 3 with the middle section? if its separate)

York seems to be more interested in commercial developments rather than residential.
