I sure hope so!! This city needs the colour. The VIC has been so well received; even people in Moncton reference it when discussing modern residential options.

I want to get my hands on that rendering!

I bet thats the reason.

Using it as a shield during demo doesnt make that much sense to me at least.
They will be able to seal a dumpser up inside the enclosure and not have to worry about cleaning individual bags and taking them through an airlock. The whole dumpster can be sealed then cleaned before leaving the airlock. This should save a lot of labour.

Im guessing that like you say, there is a TON of asbestos in there. Could be lead paint too i suppose.

One of the things I like about Halifax is how it has a different aesthetic from Canadian cities outside of Atlantic Canada. You can get away with bright red balconies there a lot more easily than in some other places. The city is more colourful than average, although many areas need improvement. Halifax is already pretty interesting and is the largest city of its particular variety. It could grow into something really great and unique over the next few years.

The additional colour, if this balcony trend continues, would do wonders for revitalising the downtown so that it appears less barren during the winter months.

I had noticed the same thing. Those red balconies looked good before, but I found that on a dreary February day they really stood out (in a good way).

Ooouuuu!! I love all the angles we're getting with this development!

And I realise many of you dislike the red brick that is seemingly common in Halifax -- but I enjoy Cunard Court (and miss living there!).

From my vantage point it is now possible to see straight through the top 2 floors of the tower section with men hard at work on the next floor down.

Has there been any more progress on the Citadel Hotel demolition?

Has there been any more progress on the Espace renovation on Barrington Street?

Have any excavators been seen at the Nova Centre site?

Just sitting at YYZ on my way back out west so this info is current as of yesterday.
Espace is progressing slowly lots of interior stuff is getting done, I'm guessing when that's completed it will move quicker for the additional floors.

Nothing doing at nova centre, walked by there on my way to the mooseheads game cause I was wondering the same.

As for citadel I didn't get up that far

Cheers

Not only are we getting three towers that will address the site and street better out of this, we are getting rid of really ugly buildings.

This update was on the Citadel Hotel Redevelopment website: (source: http://www.citadelhotelmakeover.ca/news/)

Citadel Hotel Project Update
May 11, 2012

UPDATE: A Final Site Plan Approval was issued by the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) on March 9th, 2012, permitting the construction of: two 13 storey hotels and an 18 storey residential building with associated retail and auxiliary uses, on the former Citadel Hotel site. On May 11th, a revised site plan was submitted to HRM to add two storeys to each of the hotels, bringing both up to 15 storeys, and the total hotel rooms to 316. All other aspects of the application, including the 18 storey residential building, siting, setbacks and other uses, remain the same. An Open House will be held May 29, 7 PM – 9 PM at the Museum of Natural History for those interested to learn more.

These are the current renderings on the Citadel Hotel website:
