I can't get a decent photo, but Casino Regina changed the main building sign from their icon red word mark to an ugly, and mainly unreadable (from a block or so away) digital display.

I am super pumped about the new store that has opened on the 200 Block of Vic Ave E. Finally Regina has one of these. Why is the media not all over this?

That's China pastry... A car rammed through the front of the building a couple months back.

This temporary façade is probably an improvement on what they had.

China Pastry

We have not been to China Pastry since they moved from Quance. For regulars, is it still worthy?

I haven't gone since the tarping was put up, but have gone multiple times before... yes, it's still awesome. Coconut Buns are a must.

Yes, it is still worthy of going. Tony is a wonderful baker. They had just finished putting the stone on the front of the building a short time before the car (or truck?) had struck the building. They had the stone sitting on a pallet inside the store for ages. Ironic that it got wrecked. I agree that it is a ugly building, but then, a lot of the buildings along Vic in this area are ugly, but...every city, no matter where you go, is going to have these types of buildings. It's not a perfect world. Hopefully Tony & Sally will get insurance money to make the front more attractive.

Sorry, don’t have a photo, but it looks nearly complete and some of the stores are open.

Since there already was rumour of Shoppers moving into the Sears area anyways, and that Loblaws now owns Shoppers...connect those possible dots. Also Regina seems to be a test zone for Loblaws regarding grocery so far at Shoppers locations.

OK that sounds plausible. I cannot imagine they would take a whole floor but I can see them really wanting direct street access. It would be fantastic if they opened up some of the outside walls.

And Sears has its own parkade area, so that's one other draw. I'm sceptical, but it's not completely out of the question.

Not sure if Loblaws would worry about market saturation though having 4 semi/full-sized Superstores in the city + all the Shoppers carrying groceries?

A possible new Shoppers large grocery store concept, or maybe a connected Loblaws family branded grocery store next to Shoppers. Either way, this would be brilliant and help support Downtown residents and spur new residents. Plus there already is the large Sears loading docks off Hamilton perfect for food delivery PLUS perfect grocery location close to the possible future over tracks bridge to the Railyard residential redevelopment area and Warehouse District.
