Thanks again! One thing I am confused by is the space - does the the building start at the elevator wall? I thought the building was a bit wider. Where the crane is, for instance, is where part of the building should be, no?

Here's the rendering showing that side. It looks like the elevator core is the outer wall.

Wow. That makes the building even smaller (in width) than previously thought. Crazy.

If you look at the web cam, it's pretty crazy how far this building goes without any support columns. I didn't think it would go that far.

Thanks for the post! Are you working on this project? You seem to always know a lot.

Okay, what is the red part...it looks different from the other temporary support.

^^ That's for the cantilever. I assume the cantilever's base will have quite a lot of concrete, so it will need stronger-than-normal support... thus the heavy duty trusses.

Check it out on the webcam:

Well, now we know why they dug a hole only to put concrete in there a while back.

If someone is able to take another pic from above, it would be much appreciated. This building is really complex and confusing. This must be the most complex building in SA.

Thanks.

These two next floors are the most complex. I’m not sure exactly how it will be poured, but the cantilever will be supported by some massive, massive, concrete beams. I believe all of these trusses you see are for the beams and to support the new floor deck of the cantilever.

Fryguy, I wish I could tell you more about what all of this stuff is, but not exactly sure. I’m sure in the coming days it may be more clear.

I'd say the orange trusses serve a duel purpose. They add structural support as part of the scaffolding during the construction of the cantilever, but they are also there to extend the safety "netting" of the construction process to protect the people, buildings and Riverwalk below from any falling objects.

If someone drops a bag of cement and damages the Esquire I will be very upset.

They did indeed pour the concrete this morning. Such a clean look... for now.

Why do they make cranes so tall in Texas? In most places the cranes are a few floors above the top level of construction, then they raise them every so often. Seems dangerous.

My first reaction to seeing this picture: "Wow, what a cluster full of medium sized beige buildings..."

I think the reason this one is so tall is because the operator needs to be able to swing the crane around without running into anything. If you look at the Thompson, that tower crane is only a few floors above. It won't rise again until they get to the 10th floor.
