I know i'm an outsider but here in Winnipeg we have a ton of buildings where the facade is Limestone and those pictures above look like precast concrete. To me, the color variations look like drying patterns in the concrete, but not being able to see it in person it is best left to the locals to assess.

Gorgeous building though.

It looks like precast concrete to me also, but I haven't seen it in person. Either way like you said, its still a gorgeous building.

Having seen it in person dozens of times now I'm inclined to believe it's limestone but to be honest I'm really just as confused as you guys. Having said that, here's a bit of evidence courtesy of an archBostoner:

Although it does say: "Precast Contractor: Artex Systems, Inc.", Im not sure what that means

Yesterday.....I left the ISO up way too high from shooting the previous night and more or less ruined these shots, but oh well:

Compare the above to this shot from two months ago:

This tower turned out quite nice. I like the street corner effect. It gives a visual appearance of a taller structure.

Should the title of this thread be "T/O" as opposed to "U/C" ?

Hot damn this building looks good! Is that precast or real limestone on the base?

I spoke to one of the construction guys about two weeks ago; it's essentially precast concrete with limestone panels attached. This allows much larger panels to be used. If you look, you can see the color difference between the precast and the limestone on some older pictures in this thread.

Here: (That's my image)

tl;dr The stone is real but for construction purposes it's essentially precast.

Even though it's essentially a veneer, the use of real limestone makes this tower.

Yup, thank you Downburst for clarifying the whole limestone-precast matter for what will hopefully be the last time. Just like bricks get laid into concrete to make brick precast panels, the same can be done with limestone.

I'll bet people walking past this tower when it's finished will think it was built in the 1930s

This building looks to be plucked right from 1930. Very very nice.

It's nice to see something built with this cladding, and not the 'norm' glass box. I like it.
