According to the strange customs of the Canada section, the Butterfly in Vancouver has started excavation and is 'Under Construction'. It's a deep excav so actual construction won't likely start until after summer but thought it was worth an update out here.

Can't get too wrapped up in semantics when only two statuses are available to describe the site. Hard hat's and heavy machinery jives better with under construction than proposed. I've only noticed delays in the hand over among Concord's developments.

The sites of Rosedale on Bloor and both M City phases are not being excavated anymore. My earlier updates suggest this.

I hate to get on much-maligned Mississauga's case yet again, but man does it look like a depressing post-nuclear wasteland, even on a sunny day. City planners really dropped the ball there.

I assumed that Mississauga would at least look good (if it wasn't urban) due to being new but Hurontario was a complete shock to me. It's good to see Mississauga heading in the right direction but they have a ton of work to do.

Yes, a long way to go before there's a semblance of urbanity. Skyscrapers alone don't come close to conferring urbanity.

MCC is never going to develop the sense of urbanity of a traditional downtown. The layout is set confirmed with projects like Daniels City Centre, Parkside Village, M City.

MCC at best can hope for a Cityplace vibe. It will always be a vertical suburb city in name just my numbers.

We don't need another downtown Toronto. So Mississauga can have its central core be whatever they want. Don't expect King West or Kensington in the suburbs.

Agreed!
Also I hardly think Toronto is a model city that other cities should be modeled after. It can't happen in a suburban setting like Mississauga and anyone who has any knowledge of how Mississauga came to be, would understand that. That is not to say that MCC can't achieve something appropriately fitting for the area, and as someone who works in the area and has seen it transform over the years, I recognize the potential and can see the strides being made to create its own unique sense of urbanity.

According to UT, the developer of Rosedale on Bloor has applied for a 5 storey height increase. This would move it from #29 to #19.
